Daily Roundup: May 1 Games



Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 0 Brother Rice 4- Matt Ruppenthal pitched for the first time in two weeks and did not disappoint.  He threw a complete game shutout striking out 10.  Bobby Cross drove in three runs for Rice.  Devin Rose singled for St. Mary’s picking up one of their two hits.

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s 2, Brother Rice 3- Tommy Lentz knocked in the game winning RBi in the sixth inning for Rice and also worked two scoreless innings on the mound.  Righter and Cross each had knocks in Game 2 for Rice.  Devin Rose picked up another hit for St. Mary’s

Niles 5, Portage Nothern 6- Jacob Gividen went six innings and struck out six for Northern while Josh Dentler went 3-for-4 to power the offense.  Mitchell Dehn was on the mound for Niles going five innings but suffering the loss. 

South Lyon East 0, Northville 15- Northville was just too much as they used two pitchers to throw a combined no-hitter.

Cranbrook 11,  Jewish Academy 1- Grant Reuss went 2-for-3 at the plate an collected four RBI.  Zach Feldman went the distance for Cranbrook striking out nice but surrendering six walks.

Brighton 1, Hartland 0- GVSU commit Ryan McClelland and MSU commit Jake Lowery toed the rubber for Game 1.  Eventually Brighton was able to scrape together a run and that is all that was needed.  McClelland was nearly unhittable surrendering only one hit.

Brighton 6, Hartland 4- Sophomore Alexx Zielinski did enough to earn the win in game two.  He struck out 10 and only walked one.  Jordan Kesson, a Toledo commit, homered for Hartland.

Birmingham Seaholm 3, North Farmington 14- Freshman Alex Darden went four innings allowed two hits and struck out three for North Farmington.  For Seaholm, Hunter Green went 3-for-3 at the plate including a double. North Farmington pounded out 11 hits on the day.

Birmingham Seaholm 2, North Farmington 9- Hunter Green picked up another knock for Seaholm while Alex Breeden had three. Brooks Reno went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate for North Famington to power the offense.

Novi 1, Livonia Stevenson 2- It was Michael Kanitra’s day.  He doubled and singled in the game going a perfect 2-for-2. But is was his effort on the mound that carried Stevenson.  Kanitra went seven innings, struck out seven, walked one, and only allowed one run in the complete game.

Spring Lake 2, Fruitport 0- The Houts brothers (Codey and Kyle) combined for three of Spring Lake’s six hits.  Dillon Groover had two hits and also threw a complete game shutout for Spring Lake.

Grosse Pointe South 5, Utica Eisenhower 1- Jack Doyle and Eddie Champagne cobined to lead Grosse Pointe South. Champagne got it done on the mound going seven innings only allowing a run.  Jack Doyle went 2-for-4 at the plate for South.

Mattawan 16, Battle Creek Lakeview 1- CJ Huntley went off for Mattawan powering them with a 3-for-4 effort and driving in five.  Mattawan pounded out 13 hits.  Jake Bivens was 1-for-2 for Lakeview.

Walled Lake Western 14, Lakeland 7- Andrew Gonzalez had a big day for Western.  The MSU commit went 2-for-3 with a homerun.  He also got the win on the mound

Lake Orion 11, Clarkston 0- Ryan Lambrecht went 3-for-4 and scored three runs in the Lake Orion blowout.  Brad Schaenzer, typically known for his pitching, went 2-for-3 at the plate. 

Lake Orion 6, Clarkston 1-Brad Schaenzer struck out 10 last night and finally surrendered his first earned run of the year. He now has a .49 ERA on the year with three complete games.  Connor Grant went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Southfield Lathrup 5, Southfield 3- Johnny Slater struck out 15 in seven innings of work. Chase Colding went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI.

Sterling Heights Stevenson 12, Chippewa Valley 2- Joe Wolf went six strong innings and struck out seven hitters.  He only allowed three hits.  Zack McGuire, Bobby Griffin and Jacob Rogers all had two hits a piece.

Macomb Dakota 1, L’Anse Creuse North 7- Dakota finally suffered a loss.  They are now 17-1 on the year.  Shane Healy got it done on the mound for North throwing a complete game. 

Macomb Dakota 8, L’Anse Creuse North 2- Alex Lewandowski  threw well for Dakota as they bounced back to get on the winning side again.
