Inside the Recruitment: '16 3B/C Nick Jones commits to Eastern Michigan

8-4-15-MI

Nick Jones, 3B/C, Lakeview HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan?

Jones: I chose Eastern Michigan because of the amazing opportunity that the university provides, both academically and athletically. I believe God has called me to be a light at this school and I feel as if I could contribute right away to this winning program.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Jones: I was in contact with Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Taylor University, Oakland, and Wayne State as well.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?

Jones: Last summer they saw me at a tournament in Notre Dame. It was towards the end of that summer season.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.

Jones: I play for the Midwest Athletics in the summer, coached by Bill Blakely. Our core group of guys have played together since we were 10 years old. My most memorable moments from this team are surely the relationships that I have been able to make with these guys over the past 7 years of my life. Our team has become a band of brothers, and it surely changes the way I look at the game. We learned to play for the brothers next to us, rather than for our own success, and it has made such a difference.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Jones: I thought the recruiting process was a blast. Being able to visit each school and see what each university had to offer academically and athletically was truly a cool experience. Since I had such faith that God's will would be done on my life, I was not worried about the recruiting process. I simply enjoyed it.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Jones: .490 AVG, 35 RBI, 33 R, 48 H, .957 FPCT

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Jones: The toughest pitcher that I have faced is my summer teammate Ben Keizer. During previous high school seasons, he was very difficult to hit.
