Michigan Spotlight Game: Midland vs Bay City Western - Doubleheader
Game 1
Midland and Bay City Western squared off Monday in a key Saginaw Valley League doubleheader and a rematch of last seasons District 2 final won by Western.
Both teams sent their ace’s, 2017 Jordan Patty for Midland and 2017 Cody Freed for Bay City Western, to the mound in game one and Patty topped Freed in a pitchers duel, as Midland won the game 1-0.
Patty went the distance for Midland, striking out seven in seven shutout innings. The Central Michigan recruit allowed just three hits, all singles, in the win.
Freed allowed just two hits over six innings, taking the tough luck loss.
Midland scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. 2017 Greg Landis reached on an error to lead off the inning and was lifted for a pinch runner. 2019 Jeff Landis moved the runner over to third with a sacrifice bunt and 2017 Brendan Doyle drove in the winning run with a single to left field two batters later.
Game 2
Midland jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two and completed the sweep with a 3-2 win.
Greg Landis hit a RBI double in the first inning and added a RBI single in the bottom of the third to account for both runs.
Bay City Western scored two in the top of the fifth to tie the game. 2019 Adam Randall and 2018 Blake Plowdrey each had RBI singles in the inning.
2017 Garrett Willis drove in the game winning run with a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Willis also started game two on the mound and picked up the win, throwing five innings.
