PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Washington: I am interested in a school with a strong academic program.  I am looking forward to learning more about economics and the financial market. I was selected to serve on the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Student Board of Directors.  As part of this program, I have learned about monetary policy and the role that the Federal Reserve System plays in the broad economy. My involvement in this program has led me to realize that I am very interested in the financial markets and understanding economic data and trends.  This led me to apply for a trip that my high school sponsors to Wall Street. While in New York I had meetings at some of the biggest firms in New York including JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bloomberg, Lebaron Brown and Credit Suisse. I am currently taking a course in AP Microeconomics.  I enjoy the class every day and though difficult it fascinating and I have learned to, as they say, embrace the struggle. I have really enjoyed immersing myself in the material and have learned a tremendous amount.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Washington: The season did not go as planned and we did not accomplish what we set out for as a team. Individual stats are not shared with players.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team? What are your goals for your senior season?

Washington: My goals for my senior season are to change my role and merge the gap between my role on my high school team, St. Louis University High Jr Bills and my summer, St. Louis Gamers. Over this past summer, I entered the season as nothing more than an extraordinarily athletic PO. Over the course of the summer, I began to find myself as a key player on the field defensively and more importantly offensively.

I made the transition from pitcher-only to batting leadoff, finding myself being a key part of my summer lineup and making a difference defensively in the outfield. I always knew that I was a capable offensive player and I found this to be true when given the chance. I ended up hitting three balls off the wall at LakePoint in Atlanta off of velocities ranging from 86-88. Also, I played a vital role in relief pitching against top competition during the summer season. Ultimately, I want to be a key part of a competitive college pitching staff as well as a reliable offensive producer.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Washington: I have played travel ball for the St. Louis Gamers the past six years. I also played fall ball with the Gamers. I had an exceptional Fall season that culminated with an impressive showing at the PBR Fall Championships at Grand Park. Below is a write up describing my performance:

+ LHP Ted Washington (St. Louis University HS, MO) is uncommitted and stands at 6-foot-1, 168 pounds. He has a young, underdeveloped frame for 2018, but he is an athlete with long limbs, a loose arm and plenty of room for continued development. He works across his body out of a drop-and-drive delivery with a fastball that ranged between 78-80. He also barreled a ball to center field and glided around the bases for a triple.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Washington: Freshman year I played soccer, basketball, and baseball for St. Louis University High School. Sophomore and junior year I narrowed my athletic focus and switched to football (in order to gain weight for baseball) and baseball for St. Louis University High School.  This year I have focused all of my efforts on playing baseball, including playing fall ball, participating in concentrated winter training, and baseball in the spring. As mentioned earlier, I have played for the St. Louis Gamers for six years.  This included winter conditioning, spring training, director’s training and summer play every year.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA

Washington: ACT: highest Composite=28  Super-Score: 29. GPA-3.4
