Preseason All-State East: Outfielders

On Monday, February 15, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Preseason All-State East Showcase at All-Star Performance in St. Louis, Mo. 

Nearly 60 players from 2017 class participated with another 10-plus from the 2018 and 2019 class.  Profiles have been updated with profile picture, stats and video.  In days to come, we will break down each position, taking a look at the outfield performances today. Outfielders are listed alphabetically.

Outfielders

Jordan Ball, OF, Troy Buchanan, 2017
Ball is a 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.39 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 76 mph. At the plate, starts in a closed stance, short stride, level path through hitting zone, pull side line drives, smooth rhythm.  In the outfield, 71 mph positional velo, fields ball with momentum, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw.

Hayden Bender, OF, Waterloo (IL), 2017
Bender is a 6-foot 215-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Illinois’ 2017 class.  He ran a 4.21 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth load into back side, quick hands, slightly uphill bat path, uses middle of the field.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, crow hop, aggressive through the catch, over the top release, arm works, quick transfer and release.

Nikolai Brhely, OF, Francis Howell Central, 2017
Brhely is a 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.32 home to first and has an exit velo of 85 mph.  At the plate, starts in balanced position, smooth rhythm, short path to ball, loose hands, swing produced line drives to middle of the field.  In the outfield, over the top release, footwork and transfer, 78 mph positional velo.

Jordan Cizek, OF, Lafayette, 2019

Cizek is a 5-foot-7 130-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.78 home to first and has an exit velo of 72 mph. At the plate, wide set up, short stride, minimal load, level path, middle-to-pull line drives.  In the outfield, lefty thrower, high three quarters release, works behind the ball, clean catch and throw, 65 mph positional velo.

Hayden Cooper, OF, Holt, 2018
Cooper is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He got down the line in 4.62-seconds and has an exit velo of  86 mph. At the plate, slightly open stance, short stride, quick bat speed, level through zone, loose hands, line drives to pull side.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, over the top release, athletic footwork, crow hop, plays through the catch.

Braden Cox, OF, Scott City, 2017

Cox is a 6-foot-2 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.59 home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, short stride with no wasted movement, short to contact, level to extension, quick bat speed, gap-to-gap power.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, over the top release, athletic footwork, momentum through the catch, quick catch and release, aggressive and strong. 

Andrew Douglas, OF, Festus, 2017
Douglas is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.65 home to first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, raises hand and strides to load, level bat plane, quick hands, pull side line drives.  In the outfield, over the top release, clean arm action with fluid footowork and exchange, hands and feet in sync, 81 mph positional velo.

Conor Dryer, OF, Rockwood Summit, 2017
Dryer is a 6-foot-3 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 3.96 home to first and an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in open stance, loaded in back leg, controlled stride, aggressive swing, quick hands, consistent solid contact to middle/pull side.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, one of the top velos of the day, athletic footwork, aggressive to the ball, momentum through the throw, crow hop, over the top release, loose arm action.  Projectable build with room to put on more strength.

Tyler Eckman, OF, Fort Zumwalt West, 2017
Eckman is a 5-foot-9 172-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class. He ran a 4.37 home to first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, athletic stance, repeatable and simple, short stride, level though zone, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, field ball in athletic position, fluid transfer, quick release.

Isaac Esquilin, OF, Staley, 2017
Esquilin is a 5-foot-11 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 3.96, top RHH time of the event, home to first and has an exit velo of 83 mph. At the plate, balanced set up with some rhythm, hands walk away from controlled leg lift to stride, gap-to-gap approach, loose hands.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, clean transfer with quick release, arm works, momentum through throw.

Milton Green, OF, Crossroads, 2017
Green is a 5-foot-8 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 74 mph.  At the plate, wide stance, minimal stride, strong hands, gap to gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, 72 mph positional velo, plays through catch, quick catch and throw, throws have backspin and carry.

Dylan Hansen, OF, Fort Zumwalt West, 2017
Hansen is a 6-foot 165-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He has an exit velo of 79 mph and ran a 4.57 home to first. At the plate, starts loaded in back leg, slight coil in shoulders during load, short stride, middle to oppo approach.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, momentum through the catch, clean transfer and throw with fluid footwork.

Alexander Hoff, OF, St. Dominic, 2017
Hoff is a 6-foot 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He has an exit velo of 84 mph and ran a 4.08 home-to-first. At the plate, athletic set up, repeatable swing mechanics, short and quick stride, level path, quick bat speed, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 88 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, fluid footwork, clean transfer, over the top release, long arm circle. 

Zack Hunsicker, OF, Francis Howell, 2018
Hunsicker is a 6-foot-5 225-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.44 home to first and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, minimal load, short stride, quick bat speed, line drives gap-to-gap, power swing, solid consistent contact.  In the outfield, 90 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, over the top release, throws have carry, momentum through catch, quick catch and release.

Andrew Jones, OF, Parkway North, 2017
Jones is an athletic 6-foot-1 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 3.99, home to first, one of top LHH times for the event, and has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, open stance, short in-line stride, strong hands, middle to opp approach, body controlled throughout swing.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, attacks ball, crow hop, over the top release, quick catch and throw. 

Tommy Kraus, OF, Vianney, 2017
Kraus is a 5-foot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.15 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 89 mph, top LHH exit velo for the event. At the plate, smooth and simple swing mechanics, minimal load no wasted movement, level to exension, pull side line drive with some pop.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters release, fluid footwork, clean glove to hand transfer, throws have carry. 

Stone Krogman, OF, Liberty-Wentzville, 2017
Krogman is a 6-foot-3 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.05, home to first, one of the top RHH times of the event, and has an exit velo of 87 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, toe tap, in-line stride, strong hands with bat whip, middle approach.  In the outfield, 89 mph positional velo, one of top velos for the event, fields ball in athletic postion, over the top release with quick feet and fluid transfer. 

Joseph Kuchta, OF, Fort Zumwalt East, 2018
Kuchta is a 6-foot 147-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.32 home-to-first and had an exit velo of 74 mph.  At the plate, thin stance in base, controlled leg lift with coil in front knee, middle to oppo approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, fluid footwork, crow hop, clean exchange.

Wyatt Lalumandier, OF, Ste. Genevieve, 2017
Lalumandier is a 5-foot-10 185-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He has an exit velo of 84 mph and ran a 4.09 home to first. At the plate, balanced set up, short stride with minimal load, quick hands, level path through zone, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, 86 mph positional velo, one of the top velos for the event, throws have carry, over the top arm slot, clean glove to hand transfer, crow hop, momentum through catch. 

Drew Layman, OF, Cuba, 2017
Layman is a 5-foot-8 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.38 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 76 mph.  At the plate, open stance, in line stride, mostly middle of the field line drives, short to contact, gets extended.  In the outfield, over the top release, clean exchange, quick release, fluid footwork, 79 mph positional velo.

Matthew McGilvray, OF, Washington, 2017
McGilvray is a 5-foot-9 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.15 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 74 mph.  At the plate, athletic stance, controlled leg kick, aggressive to ball, level path, middle to pull side line drives.  In the outfield, quick catch and throw, over the top release, loose arm action, throws have carry, 82 mph positional velo.

Mason Mitchell, OF, Marquette, 2017
Mitchell is a strong 6-foot-2 200-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.42 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 87 mph, one of the top LHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, starts with slightly open stance, short in-line stride, strong hands with level bat path, middle to pull power.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release with momentum through the catch, quick feet and quick release, throws have carry.

Carter Mize, OF, Fort Zumwalt West, 2017
Mize is a 6-foot-2 159-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He has an 80 mph exit velo and runs a 4.34 home to first. At the plate, starts with wide stance, short stride, no wasted movement, level path to extension, has bat whip, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, crow hop, attacks ball with quick feet, clean transfer, 83 mph positional velo.

Dylan Mooney, OF, Oakville, 2018
Mooney is a 5-ffot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.27 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 82 mph.  At the plate, athletic set up, smooth rhythm with hands walking away from stride, level bat path, gap-to-gap approach. In the outfield, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, field ball in athletic position ready to throw, arm works, 77 mph positional velo.

Andrew Paten, OF, Hickman, 2017
Paten is a 6-foot-1 200-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.16 home to first and has an exit velo of 91 mph, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, starts in open stance, in-line stride, gap-to-gap approach, some pop to pull side. In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo,

Douglas Payne, OF, Cuba, 2017
Payne is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.25 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, starts with open stance, short in-line stride, loose hand with a level path through contact, no wasted movement, solid consistent contact gap-to-gap.  In the outfield, attacks ball, plays through catch, fast footwork, quick catch and release, 84 mph positional velo, athletic actions, loose arm, throws have carry.

Ryan Rogers, OF, Francis Howell Central, 2019
Rogers is a 5-foot-10 135-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.35 home-to-first. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, short stride, repeatable swing, level bat path, mostly middle of the field line drives.  In the outfield, 58 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork, clean transfer with quick release.

Zachary Rosecrans, OF, Columbia (IL), 2017
Rosecrans is a 5-foot-9 175-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.20 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, starts in balance, loaded in back side, short stride, quick hands, stays on ball through contact, gap-to-gap approach.  In the outfield, over the top release, fluid footwork, aggressive crow hop, arm works, quick catch and throw, throws have carry, 81 mph positional velo.

Austin Schmitt, OF, Valley Park, 2018
Austin Schmitt is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.07 home-to-first and has an exit velo of 86 mph. At the plate, open stance, controlled short in-line stride, loose hands, consistent line drive gap-to-gap, repeats swing. In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, plays through catch, works behind the ball, clean transfer.

Brandon Williams, OF, Jefferson City, 2017
Williams is a 6-foot-3 195-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2017 class.  He ran a 4.09 home to first, one of the top RHH times of the event, and has an exit velo of 89 mph, one of the top RHH exit velos for the event. At the plate, open stance, smooth rhythm into stride, quick and loose hands, gap-to-gap approach, solid consistent contact. In the outfield, high three quarters release, quick hand-to-glove exchange, athletic actions, throws have back spin at 86 mph, one of the top velos for the event.
