Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week.  Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.

The final week of the regular season included many teams playing in their conference tournaments as teams prepared for the post-season.  Big performances keyed championship runs. 

This week’s player of the week comes from St. Paul’s HS.  JJ Oxendine keyed a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs as he used a complete game effort on the mound, and a sound game at the plate to earn Player of the Week Honors.

Jacob Oxendine RHP / 2B / St. Paul's, NC / 2017 + CG win with 10 strikeouts over Fairmont + Only allowed 3 hits + Also went 3-4 with 2 RBI

Honorable Mention

Bryson Bailey RHP / Kings Mountain, NC / 2017 + CG no hitter vs. East Burke + 80 pitches to complete the game, with 5K’s and 3 walks + Was 1-2 at the plate with an RBI, run scored and 2 walks

Phillip Berger OF / RHP / Cedar Ridge, NC / 2019 + No-hitter in a 6-0 win over Orange + CG, with 0 walks and 3 K’s

Connor Norby SS / RHP / East Forsyth, NC / 2018 + Hit .500, going 7-14 + Week included a HR, 9 RBI’s and 4 runs scored

Macklin Ohs RHP / Cuthbertson , NC / 2017 + Picked up a save in the semi-final win over Weddington, working the 7th inning, striking out two + Got the win in the championship win over Marvin Ridge + Worked 6 innings, giving up 5 hits

Chase Sykes OF / Voyager Academy, NC / 2018 + No hitter in 10-0 win over River Mill + CG, 6 inning effort.  + Punched 11, walking only 2 + 50 of his 74 pitches were for strikes

Garrett Saylor RHP / Reagan, NC / 2018 + CG, 3 hitter in 1-0 win over RJ Reynolds

Luke Kimrey RHP / East Forsyth, NC / 2018 + Complete Game win in conference semi-final win + 7 IP, 5H, 0R, 1BB, 7K

Aaron Beasley LHP / Voyager Academy, NC / 2018 + 3-5 with a home run and double + 4 runs scored and 5 RBI in the two games.

Sam Peddycord RHP / 2B / East Forsyth, NC / 2018 + 0 earned runs in 2 relief appearances in conference tournament + 6IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 3BB, 5K + Picked up the win in the tournament championship game, working 4 innings

JC Ouzts RHP / OF / Northern Guilford, NC / 2017 + CG shutout to avenge one of NGHS only losses + Allowed 2 hits while walking none.  + Struckout 5

Tanner Smith RHP / East Forsyth, NC / 2018 + Hit .538 on the week, going 7-13 + Collected 4 RBI’s and scored 4 runs
