Scouting Report on Shepard:
Robert Shepard RHP/1B (Corning HS, 2015)

8-16-14
Shepard moves well around the bag, keeps his feet moving, and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has an average transfer, short arm action and throws for a mid ¾ slot across the diamond. At the plate Shepard brings some next level power potential with above average bat speed over 90 mph. He sets up with his hands high, uses a small stride from a wide base. His bat path is slightly inclined through the zone, powerful hands stay inside the ball, high finish after contact.

6-21-14

Shepard stands 6-foot-3 250 pounds. His fastball sits 76-78 topping 79 mph with some sink. Rushes a bit but new to the position, worked all corners of the plate and planes going up and down/ in and out in his outing. Curveball sits 63 mph with 10/4 shape with gradual action. 1B/Hitting - Shepard moves well for his size and swings a strong bat with an exit velocity of 90 mph off a tee. He has a lot of power potential and just needs more reps. He stays inside the baseball well with good contact. At first base we shows a nice glove and accurate arm at 74 mph.

Analysis:
There is no question at all Shepard can swing the bat with some serious authority. Plenty of bat speed and strength come from his 6-foot-3 250-pound frame, and the baseballs are feeling the brunt of that force. I really like his swing for a bigger guy, he has balance through his swing, really powerful finish, and signs for athleticism. If he wants to play college baseball the number one thing he needs to work on is his arm strength. This off season could be game changer if he comes out this spring with an overall stronger arm and body.
