2017 Draft Recap: Pennsylvania

By Jacob Gill
Pennsylvania Assistant Director of Scouting

The 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft concluded Wednesday with five Pennsylvania preps and 29 college players who hail from the commonwealth hearing their names called. Below is a listing of each, with some brief analysis. More detailed scouting reports (particularly on the high schoolers) can be found by clicking the link to their player profile.

Selections from Pennsylvania High Schools
Name Position High School Round Pick Team Commitment
Adam Stauffer RHP Coatesville Area 19 578 Orioles St. John's
Justin Vought
C Wyoming Valley West 31 930 Royals Maryland
Christopher McMahon
RHP West Chester Rustin 33 980
Braves
Miami
Hunter Lonigro RHP Connellsville Area 35 1053 Mariners
Shane Muntz C Malvern Prep 36 1068 Padres Wake Forest

The only question mark here would appear to be Stauffer, who worked out at Camden Yards the week prior to the draft and impressed enough to have the Orioles acquire his rights.  The other four prospects were drafted late enough that it is unlikely they would sign instead of heading to campus.
