Tim Kay Joins PBR As Tennessee Director of Scouting



The Prep Baseball Report is extremely pleased to announce Tim Kay as the Tennessee Director of Scouting. Kay is an excellent addition to the Prep Baseball Report team, and his work ethic and ability to evaluate players are highly regarded among baseball circles.

Kay spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Freed-Hardeman University in kayHenderson, Tennessee where he oversaw the Lions pitching staff. In his two seasons as the pitching coach, Kay’s staff set consecutive school records for most strikeouts in a season while he helped lead the program to 73 wins during his tenure. In addition, Kay coached American Midwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, Brandon Guske, and Riley Echols, a 24th round draft selection in 2017.

Before arriving at Freed-Hardeman, Kay worked as Director of Video Scouting for USA Baseball in Durham, North Carolina where he implemented a video scouting program to assist all national teams with both player selection and coaching. He also led the implementation of a plan to disperse video to MLB teams, collegiate coaches and individual players. In 2013, Kay also served as USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Coordinator.

Prior to his stint at USA Baseball, Kay, a 2013 graduate of Major League Baseball Scout School, heldkay2 two positions with Major League Baseball organizations where he served as Arizona League Video Coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Video Scouting Intern for the Washington Nationals. His duties in those positons included overseeing all video requests made by coaches and front office staff, coordinating incoming video from other minor league video coordinators and sending the video to front office personnel daily, and creating all amateur and international video to be used by the scouting staff of each organization.

Kay, an Alpharetta, Georgia native who played baseball collegiately at Blufton (OH) University, hit and pitched his way into the school’s record books. A three-time Heartland Conference First Team selection, Kay not only defeated opponents on the mound but did it with his bat as well, finishing with a career .403 batting average, third highest in Blufton baseball history.

Kay earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management with a minor in Business Administration from Blufton University. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Freed-Hardeman University.

Kay is in the process of moving to the Middle Tennessee area. He will begin his duties with Prep Baseball Report Tennessee beginning September 1, 2017. His wealth of experience, expertise and connections will help deliver the most comprehensive high school baseball coverage Tennessee has seen.
