Unsigned Senior Spotlight: Giles County RHP/UT Taylor Gilbert

As we continue leading up to the season by taking a look at unsigned seniors that high school coaches around the state feel have the ability to play at the next level, Giles County High School Head Coach Rob Laxson has a prospect  he thinks colleges need to know about.

Taylor Gilbert is a 5-foot-11, 210-pound prospect who throws and hits from the right side.  He is used as a utility player and pitcher for Giles County High School. Gilbert will play a big role for the Bobcats this season.

“Taylor is a polished player with great instincts and competitiveness,” Laxson stated.  “He ended last season with a .330 batting average with nine doubles.  Taylor is a tough out who puts the ball in play as he only struck out 10 times in 121 at bats last season.”

While his offensive contributions are significant, Laxson says his value to the team doesn’t end there.

“Taylor was one of our top pitchers last season as well,” he said.  “In 46 innings pitched, he had 32 strike outs with a 2.90 ERA.  He’s a guy who throws strikes consistently as he walked just 16 batters in those 46 innings of work.”

Look for Gilbert to help lead the Bobcats once again this spring.
