The state of Texas is known for producing some of the top talent in the country. Players mature and grow at their own rate, some bloom early in their high school career while others make jumps later. Even though the recruiting cycle has changed in recent history with players committing earlier and earlier, there are still uncommitted seniors that are coming into their own and putting together great seasons.

Our staff has been out all spring covering games throughout the state. This week we will highlight some of the top uncommitted seniors we have seen. Today we look at some of the outfielders from around the state.

Alec Eskenazi, OF, Hebron HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Athletic outfielder that plays hard with a lot of bounce in his game, on both offense and defense. Eskenazi made yet another diving play on Friday, this time up against the hitting facility down the left field line. Although he didn’t have much to show for it, the right-handed hitter had four quality at-bats, a walk and three balls that he hit hard. His best shot was a deep fly ball to left field with the bases loaded. Had the wind not been howling in from the north, Eskenazi could have had himself a grand slam. In a separate game, he Athletic outfielder that plays hard with a lot of bounce in his game, on both offense and defense. From the right side he was a 4.26 down the line on a ground ball to second base. Dove for a ball down the left field line with no fear of the wall.

Michael Podsednik, OF, Episcopal HS, 2017
5-foot-9, 165-pounds. Podsednik, an uncommitted senior and left-handed bat, was all over the field against Second Baptist. In his first at-bat he reached on an infield single after hitting behind the runner at second base, and ran a 4.28-second time to first base. After walking in his second at-bat, Podsednik tripled to right field for two RBI, then doubled for two more RBI. Hitting in the two hole for Episcopal, Podsednik is a table setter that runs well and handles the bat.

Dylan Coats, OF, Wakeland HS, 2017
6-foot, 185-pound, strong, athletic frame. Coats has present arm strength and excellent carry on his throws from right field during I/O. Hitting in the five-hole for a very good Wakeland team, Coats was 1-for-3 last friday night with a single and two RBI, and stole third base. The uncommitted senior starts from an open stance with rhythm in his hands and lands in an athletic position. With his present overall strength, long strides and all-around athleticism both on defense and at the plate, Coats is sure to be a nice sign.

Cason Jackson, OF, Rider HS, 2017
Estimated 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame. The uncommitted senior had three hits on the day, all singles, and two that drove in a run a piece. In his first at-bat, Cason beat out an infield single. Then, in his next two at-bats he squared up balls to left-field and center field. Cason is an athletic player with fast twitch speed and strong hands.

C.J. Brooks, OF, Frisco Liberty, 2017
Estimated 6-foot-2, 185-pound, athletic, muscular frame. The uncommitted senior hit in the leadoff spot for the Redhawks. The right-handed hitter showed strength at contact on a base hit to left-centerfield on a curveball from DeLoach. Most recently we saw Brooks face a very good arm from Wakeland. Although he did not have a hit to show for his effort, he did hammer a hanging breaking ball deep to left field, directly into a stiff breeze.

Seth Marrow, CF, Reagan HS, 2017
Marrow played an excellent all-around game. Going 3-for-3 in his first three at bats, with three hard line drives to right field from the right-handed batter’s box. Marrow was able to display his speed, going from home-to-first in 4.25-seconds. He showed great patience as the lead off hitter for Reagan. He also covered the outfield with ease, backing up the corner outfielders.

Chase Cos, OF, Klein Oak HS, 2017
5-foot-8, 200-pound frame. The right-handed hitter went deep to left field in game one for a solo home run. Cos took a chest high fastball and launched it with backspin, deep over the left field wall. In game two he was 1-for-3 with a double down the left field line. The right-fielder showed some range as he made two plays on pop ups going from deep in right field to the “triangle” area behind first base.

Hunter Shields, CF, Smithson Valley HS, 2017
5-foot-11, 175-pound frame. The speedy Shields legged out a 4.25 and a 4.22 home-to-first times in his 2-2 day at the plate as he shot line drives into the right center gap.
