Loudoun Valley High School shortstop Trey McDyre has verbally committed to attend Liberty University in the fall of 2016. McDyre will join current teammate Hunter Gore in the Flames’ 2016 class as the pair will follow their former teammates and 2015 Viking graduates Jack DeGroat and Sam Urban in Lynchburg. McDyre, Gore, DeGroat, Urban, Andrew Lohr, and Justin Ager have formed the core of a Loudoun Valley team that won the 3A State Championship in 2014 and were the State Runners-Up in 2015. Gore, Ager (Yale), and McDyre will form a strong core next spring for the 2016 Vikings look to make their third straight trip to the State Tournament.

McDyre hits from a balanced and athletic stance with a slight bend in the knees. He has a smooth load back and takes a short stride. He maintains excellent balance throughout his swing and has an advanced approach at the plate. His bat path was and level with extension. He has a chance to have plus power. At times he tries to hit the ball to the opposite field too much, but he has power that way, short hopping the rightfield fence during the 3A State Championship game at Liberty. McDyre has an explosive lower half that helps him generate explosive bat speed that generated an exit velocity of 94 at the Top Prospect North Showcase in June. In the field, he throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action. He is a very good defender with soft hands and fluid footwork. His exchanges are clean and quick and he is a very good athlete in the field that plays through the baseball. He is a natural fit to stay on the left side of the infield.

When he arrives at Liberty, McDyre will immediately provide infield depth a good right handed bat off of the bench that can provide high average with extra base ability in pinch hitting spots. As his career progresses, McDyre has the tools to be a plus defender on the left side of the infield who hits in the middle of the lineup for high average with the ability to tap into extra base power to all fields.
