The Virginia/DC Preseason All State was held on Saturday, February 11th at Tuckahoe Sports Inc in Henrico, VA. 40 athletes from across the state were in attendance and performed in front of the PBR scouting staff. We began the evaluations process with our Stats Story and Rapid Reaction. Today we begin our player analysis from the event with our pitcher analysis. A very talented a deep group as a whole with plenty of offensive talent and players to watch.

Top Performers

Bradley Hanner RHP/SS Orange County 2017 (Patrick Henry CC) 
Hanner is 6-2 with an athletic frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short, quick arm action and normal effort. Shoulders level and closed, strides on line with a slight fall off finish. Fastball sat 87-89 with hard late run. Change-up was 77-80 with some arm speed and hard fading action. Curveball was 65-68 with some arm speed and late sharp 12/6 action. Slider had late 11/5 break and was 74-76. Hits from the right side from a balanced athletic stance, heel lift stride and slight load back, good rhythm.

Hampton McClellan RHP James River 2017 
McClellan is 6-3 with a lanky frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a short, loose arm action that is quick and normal effort. Shoulders are level and closed, lands slightly closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 84-86, touching 88 with downward plane and some late run. Change-up was 78-79 with sink and good arm speed. Curveball had late hard 10/4 break and some arm speed, running 66-70.

Seth Mayberry RHP Dinwiddie 2018 
Mayberry is 6-2 with an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and normal effort. Stabs a bit out of glove. Creates fast arm speed. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands slightly closed, comes to a complete finish. Gets some lower half involvement after finish. Glove side lag at times. Fastball was 84-86 with late run. Slider was 64-70 with late 10/4 break and some arm speed. Change-up was 70-74 with some arm speed and sink. Interesting prospect that could develop into a power arm.

Sean Clark RHP Briar Woods 2017 
Clark is 6-4 with an athletic frame and strong lower half, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action and some effort. Shoulders are level and closed, strides to closed landing and spins off at finish. Fastball was 82-85 with some late run and downward plane. Curveball was 63-66 with some arm speed and gradual 12/6 break. Slowed arm a bit on change-up which was 70-71 with sink.

Cade Templeton LHP Harrisonburg 2017
Templeton is 5-7 with an athletic frame and throws from high three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action normal effort. Shoulders uphill and closed, lands square with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball was 79-81 with downward plane and some late run. Change-up was 74-76 with good arm speed and sinking action. Cutter was 75-77 with late 2/8 action. Curveball was 66-68 with 1/7 break. Showed feel of the strike zone with all pitches.

Brian Baucom RHP Midlothian 2018
Baucom is 6-0 with an athletic frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a drop and drive delivery, arm action is short and throws with some effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands slightly closed with a bit of a fall off. Fastball was 77-81 with some late sink. Curveball was 60-63 with 11/5 action and some arm speed. Change-up was 73-74 with good arm speed.

Braden Gilbert RHP Norfolk Christian 2018 
Gilbert is 5-10 with a strong lower half, drop and drive delivery throwing from a low three-quarters arm slot, short free arm action with normal effort. Shoulders closed and level, lands closed with an athletic finish. Fastball was 77-79 with heavy arm side run. Change-up was 68-70 with some arm speed and heavy fade. Curveball was 64-66 with 10/4 action and some arm speed.

John Killmon RHP/SS/C Nandua 2018 
Killmon is 6-0 with an athletic frame, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and closed as he strides to a slightly closed landing, athletic finish with some recoil. Fastball was 75-76, touching 77 with some late run to it. Change-up was 71-73 with some arm speed and fading action. Curveball was 60-61 with gradual 11/5 break. Showed good command of fastball and change-up.

Frank Mayosky SS/RHP Goochland 2017 
Mayosky is 5-11 with a lanky frame, throws from a sidearm slot with a long, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are level and on line, strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 71-74 with heavy run. Curveball was 62-66 with sharp 10/4 break and good arm speed. Change-up had good arm speed and was 66-69 with sink.

Jack Nathan LHP South Lakes 2018
Nathan is 6-0 with an athletic frame, throws from a drop and drive delivery from a low three-quarters arm slot, long wrap arm action with normal effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, strides to closed landing with slight fall of finish. Fastball was 76-78 with heavy run. Change-up was 70-72 with sink and good arm speed. Curveball had late 2/8 break and was 67-69.

Lane Pearson RHP/1B Gaia 2019
Pearson is 6-6 with an athletic projectable frame, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long, free arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are uphill and closed as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 76-78 with good downward plane. Curveball had late sharp 11/5 break and was 65-68 with some arm speed. Change-up was 65-69 with some arm speed and fade. An interesting young prospect to keep an eye on.

Spencer Rife RHP Mills Godwin 2019
Rife is 5-11 and throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action and normal effort. Shoulders are closed and uphill and landing is slightly open with a complete athletic finish. Fastball was 78-80 with some late run. Change-up was 65-67 with some arm speed and arm side run. Curveball was 60-61 with 11/5 action.

Nicholas Rini LHP/1B Powhatan 2018
Rini is 6-3 with an athletic frame. Drop and drive delivery throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a short free arm action and some effort. Shoulders uphill and on line, strides to square landing with some fall off and recoil during his finish. Fastball was 78-79 with some late run. Curveball had late 12/6 break and was 58-64. Change-up was 64-69 and thrown with some arm speed and sink.

Stephen Strout RHP/OF Woodside 2018
Strout is 5-10 with an athletic frame, drop and drive delivery, throws from a high three-quarters arm slot with a long free arm action and some effort. Shoulders uphill and slightly closed, strides to square landing with a fall off finish. Fastball was 77-79 with some late run and downward plane. Curveball had hard 12/6 break and was 65-66. Change-up was 66-68 with good arm speed and fading action. Slider was 67-68 with hard downer action.

Donovan Wigfall OF/RHP Clover Hill 2019
Wigfall is 5-8 with an athletic frame, throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a long arm action and normal effort. Shoulders uphill and level, strides on line to square landing with athletic finish. Fastball was 62-65, touching 66, with some sink to it. Change-up was 57-59 with sink. Curveball was 51-53 with gradual 12/6 break. Cutter was 55-56 with 11/5 break.
