Updated 2019 Rankings

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

With Thanksgiving now past us, it is time to release the updated 2019 state rankings!

This has been a long process in developing these rankings, including being out a lot in the fall, reaching out to a number of coaches and watching video on every single player in these rankings (and outside of these rankings) while compiling internal evaluations.

These rankings have been expanded to a top 115 and includes 47 players entering their first state ranking, led by # 15 overall C/CIF Parker Noland from Farragut.

Stay tuned for more ranking specific news stories featuring uncommitted players into the winter season!

Hayden Mullins LHP / Hendersonville , TN / 2019

Mullins enters the top spot in the state after getting his FB up to 89 from an extremely difficult slot for hitters to hit.  Consistent run on the FB w/ extension.  CB flashes plus w/ tightness, above avg depth.  The combination of his lower slot w/ extension and projectable, 6-0, 170 pound frame leads to a rare profile and will be a pitcher to watch into next spring, as he looks to build on his 85 strikeouts in 49.1 innings.  Auburn commit.

Maurice Hampton OF / Memphis University School, TN / 2019

Hampton features some of the best tools in the state w/ the mechanics consistency to utilize his tools in game.  A plus-plus runner helps Hampton be a 2-sport commitment to LSU, also playing WR/CB in football.  The hip fluidity that makes great corners is evident w/ him at the plate, as he shows body control and allows his plus bat speed to play up.  A true 5-tool CF.

Travis Odom SS / RHP / Christ Presbyterian Academy, TN / 2019

The top 2-way prospect in the state, Odom shows true SS ability w/ barrel feel and plus bat speed, creating the rare 5-tool SS profile.  On the mound, the righty worked up to 87, featuring consistent life to go w/ an above average SL and CH while showing the ability to pitch w/ intent.  A very intriguing all-around player who is an Auburn commitment.

Dalton Rushing C / Brighton, TN / 2019

The top catching prospect in the state, Rushing shows elite power from the left side w/ tools to stay behind the plate.  The lefty shows that his power is game usable, consistently finding barrels and projecting to hit for average and power w/ middle of the order plate discipline.  Has the tools to catch w/ soft hands, athleticism (also plays SS) and plus arm strength.  Louisville commit.

Zane Denton 3B / 1B / Ravenwood, TN / 2019

The top corner infield prospect in the state, the switch hitter shows the rare combination of contact and power ability from both sides of the plate.  Made a huge statement this fall by not swinging and missing against the elite pitching staff of Walters State while repeating his swing from both sides.  Elite level bat projects to stay at 3B w/ good hands, feet and carry to target arm strength.  Alabama commit.
