Q & A With Christ's Church Academy Head Coach Kurt Dugan

PBR: Please tell us a little about yourself and your baseball program.

Coach Dugan: I have been at Christ’s Church Academy for 15 years. We have high school baseball for 8 years now.  It has been fun seeing the program grow during that time. This past season we were district champs in 2A.  We hope to build off of that this upcoming season.

PBR: Please tell us about your coaching style and about anyone who may have influenced you in your style or philosophy.

Coach Dugan: My father was a college baseball coach for 37 years. He was my greatest influence both on and off the field. In many ways I coach with the same style that he did.

PBR: Is there one game you look forward to every year? One opponent you especially enjoy playing?

Coach Dugan: There isn’t one game I look forward to each year. I think the district games are the important ones. I look at every other game as getting us ready for the district games and hopefully the postseason.

PBR: How do you utilize the summer for your program?

Coach Dugan: I encourage our guys to play as much as possible. I love that many of our players travel all over the state playing against great competition. It only makes our team better.

PBR:  What changes have you seen in high school baseball, if any, in recent years?

Coach DuganThe bat itself has made a big impact. The BESR bat was making average or even below average hitters into above average hitters. I like that the bat was changed to BBCOR. I like that it also brings strategy back into the game. Instead of hoping for homeruns, coaches are having to bunt, steal, and hit and run more. I personally like that style of game.

PBR: Who are some players in your program that we will be getting to know soon?

Coach Dugan: Riley Brandvold, Aaron Anderson, Cole Berger, and Caleb Gay all have potential to play at the next level.
