OUTLOOK:

Head Coach Chris May and his Gibson Southern Titans are coming off a successful year in 2013.  Last season the Titans finished 10 games above .500 at 20-10, finished tied for first in the Pocket Athletic Conference, and won a Sectional Championship.  The 2014 Titans return seven starters overall and four pitchers.  Senior 1B/RHP Dillon Whitten will be a key component in the Titans success this spring.  The 6-foot-4, 275 pound senior hit .384 last year with 5 HR and 7 2B.  Whitten may also be the team's top arm going into the season.  Last spring he finished 3-4 on the mound with a 1.92 ERA.  Coach May will rely heavily on four more seniors this spring; OF/RHP Brooks Martin, C Caleb Wagner, DH/C/1B Matthew Harpena, and OF Brandon Staback.  As a junior Martin hit .323 with 4 2B, 2 3B and swiped 18 bags while finishing 5-1 on the mound with a 1.79 ERA. The 6-foot, 205 pound Wagner will spend his first year behind the plate for the Titans.  Harpena should contribute offensively after hitting .347 in 2013.  Staback is a 6-foot, 160 pound OF with good speed and the ability to cover ground in the OF. Junior 2B Alex Smith will be a contributor both at the plate and defensively.  Last season the 2B finished with a .965 Fielding percentage and scored 27 runs with 4 triples at the plate. Gibson Southern has the depth to once again compete for a conference and sectional championship in 2014.
