2015 No. 12 Evan Giles Talks Indiana State

By Phil Wade

Director, PBR Indiana

Evan GilesEvan Giles, a 2015 right-handed pitcher from Franklin HS, recently gave his commitment to Indiana State University.  Giles is a 6-foot-1, 190 pound junior is currently ranked No. 12 in Indiana's 2015 class.

He was a member of Team Indiana at last August's Midwest Future Games at Indiana University where he was impressive on the mound, getting his fastball up to 88 mph and flashing a filthy slider that is his go to out pitch.

Below, Giles discusses his commitment to Indiana State University and Head Coach Mitch Hannahs:

PBR: Ultimately why did you choose Indiana State?

Giles: I chose ISU because I really like Coach Hannahs and the direction he is taking the program in. I've really bought into his goals for the program and his idea that I can help them reach those goals. I feel at home there and really appreciate the sincere interest he and the rest of the staff have shown me. Also after talking to Dillin Diehm who had recently committed there I felt like we can step on campus right away and make big contributions to the team.

PBR: Where did Indiana State first see you compete?

Giles: ISU first saw me compete at the Midwest Future Games at IU in August.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Giles: I was considering other schools such as Western Kentucky, Wright State, Wichita State, Ohio, South Alabama, Penn State, and the Air Force Academy.

PBR: What do the coaches expect of you when you first arrive on campus?

Giles: The coaches at ISU expect me to jump on campus freshman year and be a big part of the rotation as a weekend starter.

PBR: You were a member of Team Indiana at this year’s Midwest Future Games at IU, describe that experience.

Giles: The Future Games was an awesome experience for me. I had a great time playing with some of the most talented players in the Midwest. It helped me tremendously in my recruiting process.

PBR: Who has had the greatest impact on you as a baseball player?

Giles: My family has for sure had the greatest impact on me as a baseball player. They have always expected the best out of me and pushed me to my full potential. I would like to thank them for all the time and effort they have spent on my baseball career.

PBR: What are your goals heading into the off-season?

Giles: My biggest goal this off-season is to become more consistent with my velocity by working on my mechanics.

PBR: What are your goals both personally and as team next spring?

Giles: My high school team lost a great group of seniors last year after winning conference, county, and sectionals. We still have the same expectations for this year and are returning the core of our line up so we expect big things. My personal goals for this spring are to lead the pitching staff and help win as many games as possible. I also plan to return as the leadoff hitter and make a big contribution offensively as well.

PBR: What is your fondest baseball memory to date?

Giles: My greatest baseball memory would have to be winning sectionals last year at Whiteland with some of my best friends and teammates right there with me.
