No. 8 Ranked Grant Inman Chooses Valpo

By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana

Grant InmanThe second player from this year's Team Indiana of the Midwest Future Games has made his college choice. Ft. Wayne Carroll Junior, Grant Inman, has committed to Valparaiso University.

The 6-foot-4 RHP made a big splash this summer at the Top Prospect Games at Indiana University when he touched 89 mph, while sitting 87-88.  The No. 8 ranked prospect in Indiana's 2015 class is one of the most projectable right handed arms throughout the Midwest.

Below Inman discusses his commitment to Valpo

PBR: Why did you choose Valpo?

Inman: I chose Valpo because I liked the school, location, baseball program, and Coach Schmack.

PBR: Where did Valpo first see you compete, and when did you take your first visit?

Inman: I believe Valpo saw me for the first time in Elkhart this past summer. I visited Valpo for the first time July 29th.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Inman: I was also interested in the University of Cincinnati, Wright State, University of Kentucky, and Western Michigan.

PBR: You were a member of Team Indiana at this year's Midwest Future Games, and also played in the Top Prospect Games in June.  Describe those experiences.

Inman: The Midwest Future Games and the Top Prospect Games were one of a kind experiences. It was great playing with the other kids from Indiana against the other states and there was a high level of exposure at both events. The staff running the PBR events were great to work with.

PBR: Ultimately how has PBR helped you in the recruiting process?

Inman: I would definitely say that PBR helped put me out there. It was good to get invited and compete. I had numerous coaches email me and say that they had a chance to see me this past summer at either the Future Games or Top Prospect Games.

PBR: Now that you have committed, do you feel as though a weight has been lifted off your shoulders for the remainder of your HS career?

Inman: While I would say that I feel a weight has been lifted off of me now that I have committed to Valpo, there is still the desire to get better and compete.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Inman: Coach Mark DeLaGarza has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. He pushes me to excel both on and off the field.

PBR: You play for the Summit City Sluggers in the summer, describe your experience playing with them?

Inman: The Sluggers are like no other program I have ever been a part of . The drills, the time and effort, the knowledge and commitment to the players that the coaches have are second to none. I will be playing for Coach Todd Armstrong for the third year in a row this coming summer. I cannot express enough my gratitude to him for the time, guidance and coaching that he has given me.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you've faced in Indiana?

Inman: I would say Dillin Diehm would be the toughest hitter I have been up against as a pitcher. Dillin also happens to be a friend of mine.

PBR: What are your goals personally and as a team heading into next High School Season?

Inman: My personal goal for this next High School season would be to compete each game for the whole game. I would like to get stronger both mentally and physically on the mound. As a team I hope we continue to win games, NHC conference, sectionals, and hopefully beyond.
