Preseason Preview: Bloomington North HS

Bloomington North begins the 2013 season looking to build off of an 18-10 finish last season. The Cougars, led by Head Coach Richard Hurt, finished in the middle of the pack in Conference Indiana at 3-4, but won sectional 14 with wins over conference foes Bloomington South and Columbus North. Expectations are high though as four starters and two pitchers return including three talented seniors.

Leading the way for the Cougars are seniors Adam Cornwell (RHP/OF), Baron Ryan (OF), and Colby Stratten (RHP/INF). Cornwell and Stratten are the top returning pitchers. Cornwell was 3-1 with 48 strikeouts in 35 innings while Stratten collected six wins and 43 strikeouts in 48 innings. Ryan led the Cougars at the plate with a .352 average, six doubles and two home runs.

Other players expected to make an impact this season are a solid class of juniors. Bryce Aldridge, hit .328 last year and will be the starting catcher. Pete Allen (RHP/INF) and Blake Richardson (RHP/INF) will step into starting roles in Coach Hurt’s infield.

Bloomington North will battle with city rival Bloomington South and Lawrence Central to take the Conference Indiana title from defending champion Columbus North in 2013. Also, look for Bloomington North to bounce in and out of the top 25.
