Kansas Underclass Games: Corner Infield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas held the Kansas Underclass Games at Wichita State on June 20.  Nearly 60 players from around Missouri in Kansas participated.  The players attending were in the 2019 and 2020 classes. 

Players profiles have been updated with times, velocities, videos and player profiles.  In the days to come we will break down the event position by position, taking a inside look at the outfielders today. Players listed below are in alphabetical order

Corner Infielders

Hayden Bontrager RHP / Maize South, KS / 2019

Bontrager is a 6-foot-4 155-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.41 home to first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load into back side, minimal hand load, level bat path, stays through contact, squared up a majority of ball to middle of the field and pull side during batting practice, has pull power, advanced swing.  On the infield, high three quarters release, fluid actions with clean transfer, fields ball in athletic position ready to throw, accurate throws with carry, 76 mph positional velo, long and lean frame able to add strength to already athletic action at the plate and on the infield.

John Harrick 1B / Blue Valley Southwest, KS / 2020

Harrick is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas 2020 class.  He ran a 8.36 60 and a 5.18 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, loads into backside with reverse toe touch, leg kick, aggressive swing, mostly pull side contact during hitting evaluations, strong frame.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, three quarters release, loose arm action, clean exchange, feet create momentum to throw, soft hands. 

David Kephart RHP / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2019

Kephart is a 6-foot-5 190-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.70 60 and a 4.94 home to first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic stance, minimal load with no wasted movement, smooth rhythm and tempo, loose and quick hands, hard consistent contact to the middle of the field and pull gap, balanced and repeatable swing.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velocity, quick feet moving to the ball with a purpose, high three quarters release, accurate throws with carry, clean exchange, projectable frame still adding strength.

Blake Mitchell 3B / Goddard, KS / 2020

Michtell is a 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.37 60 and a 4.81 home to first.  H has an 82 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load with minimal hand movement, level path though the zone, loose hands, simple and repeatable, middle of the field line drives consistently.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm action, fluid transfer, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Matt Nedved LHP / Washburn Rural, KS / 2019

Nedved is a 6-foot 195-pound left-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He Rana 8.11 60 and a 5.04 home to first.  He has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open set up, controlled leg lift, short stride, some hand movement to load, slightly up hill bat path, most contact to the middle of the field, showed some pull side power.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, aggressive to the ball with footwork, momentum after the catch, soft hands and clean exchange.

Jayden Pierce RHP / Eudora , KS / 2019

Pierce is a 6-foot-4 215-pound right-handed hitting first baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.75 60 and a 5.25 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with tall stance, leg kick, aggressive hands, level path through extension, hard contact gap-to-gap during batting practice, has feel for the barrel.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, moves well to the ball, quick footwork and quick catch and throw, three quarters release, feet and hands work together on time, mostly accurate throws.

Brandon Ryan RHP / Olathe South, KS / 2019

Ryan is a 6-foot-1 200-pound left-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class. He ran a 4.69 home to first and a a 7.45 60.  He has an 84 mph exit velocity. At the plate, thin and open stance, leg kick, slightly closed stride, aggressive to the pull gap flashing power, consistent hard contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, active footwork to the ball creating momentum to throw, soft hands, quick transfer, fields ball in athletic position, high three quarters release, throws are accurate and have carry.

Kruz Wahwahsuck 3B / Leavenworth, KS / 2019

Wahwahsuck is a 5-foot-9 175-pound right-handed hitting third baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 8.37 60 and a 5.44 home to first.  He has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, hands walk away from stride, in line stride, loose hands, middle to opposite field contact during batting practice, quick bat speed, body stays under control.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fields ball in position ready to throw, fluid footwork and transfer, soft hands, made all plays cleanly during defensive evaluations.
