Preseason Preview: Clever HS

By Ethan Silverman
Missouri Scouting Director

Clever HS was a staple in the 2012 rankings, and look to continue their recent success. Ranked 18 in the Preseason polls, coach Justin Snider has his team prepped and hungry for a return trip to states. Clever has moved from a Class Two team to a Class Three team, so the challenge will be greater this season, but with seven returning starters, the experience and leadership is quite evident on this team

“We believe with our experience we have a great opportunity for another run at a Final Four.  This group of seniors have played in back to back Final Fours and are hungry to win a state title.  We went 18-0 in the fall and look to continue that level of play this Spring,” says Snider, who will enter his second year at the helm.

Top returning starters include C/RHP Chance Wolfe, who led Clever in every offensive and pitching category last season. Wolfe will have company on the mound with Bryce Wilson, who has quickly developed into the possible ace of the staff with a mid 80’s fastball that has topped at 88-mph. Tyler Martin should be the third arm on the mound, going 3-0 this fall with a 0.62 ERA

Offensively, behind Wolfe is 1B Ranger Curtis and Travis Pennewell. A transfer from Michigan, Caleb Edwards, is a new name to Clever, and looks to step into a high run producing lineup and contribute immediately.
