UBA Elite-Nebraska Prospect Tournament Scout Blog- Saturday




UBA Omaha Elite-Nebraska Prospects Invitational 
is being held in the Omaha area on Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th, 2017. There were 7 pools in the tournament with predominantly upperclass players in attendance. 

The Scout Blog will be updated throughout the weekends with notes from the games attended by the PBR staff.

Lincoln Anthology vs. Arkansas Prospects 

+ Dane Milburn, RHP, Lincoln Anthology
FB 77-80, CB, 69-70, CH 65-66
Showed great feel for all pitches, able to locate all 3 for strikes at any count

+ #17 AR Prospects, RHP, Arkansas Prospects
FB 87-92, SL 73-77
+ Velocity and lots of strikes. Advanced feel for breaking ball. Was dominant in 4 IP with 7 K’s.

FB 76-80, CB 76-78, strike thrower and ability to mix speeds and keep hitters off balance

Hammered a 3B to RC to give team lead in game. Squared up balls in both games.


Central Nebraska Stars vs. Iowa Sticks Red

+ The Central NE Stars started uncommitted '18 Jake Skala vs. IA Sticks Saturday afternoon. Skala at 6'7, 205-pounds is an imposing presence on mound and his frame looks like it could handle 20-25 more pounds easily. Fastball was 81-83 mph, touching 84 mph, on slight downhill plane. He has a compact clean arm action and threw a solid % of strikes. Will be a valuable late fall addition to a college program and could take off in college.

+ '19 Will Moritz is a strong follow in the Iowa 2019 class. Tall lean athletic frame. Shows solid actions and range at SS. Accurate arm to bag. Presently lacks strength but has solid approach at plate and routinely squares  baseball. Also threw 1 inning on mound sitting 82-84 mph with clean athletic arm action and ability to spot fastball to glove-side of plate.

+ 2019 Mason Casper and 2018 each had RBI doubles for the Stars in the contest.

+ Uncommitted ’18 Zane Schmidt reached base three times. Schmidt had a walk, single and hit a home run to right.

+ ’18 Jared Wegner, Creighton commit from Kearney (NE), also reached base multiple times in the contest.

Iowa Sticks Scout vs. Omaha Burke

+ Uncommitted Tyler Lewis, RHP, Iowa Sticks Scout was up to 91 mph with his fastball. Dominant fastball in three of his four innings. Struggled in the 2nd finding the zone. 

+ Connor McElderry, LHP, Omaha Burke was 76-78 with his FB for strikes. Mixed in a 64-65 mph 10/6 shaped breaking ball with depth. Heavy strike thrower, repeats well. 

+ Zach Hollingsworth, RHP, Iowa Sticks was 83-85 mph from a long high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball has heavy run to his armside. 


Elite Baseball Academy vs. Peak Performance Fade 

+ Uncommitted '18 Garret Reisz, SS/RHP, threw 2 innings for Peak Performance Fade. Reisz allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 batters.    Fastball was 85-87 mph in the 1st inning, mixing in a curveball at 70-72 mph and changeup at 78-79, with fastball velo dipping to 82-85 mph in the second inning.

+ Missouri State commit, Blaise Matheny, played left-field and hit in the 3-hole for Elite Baseball Academy. Matheny is a physical high waisted athlete with present strength. The left-handed hitter drew a walk, stole a base, and made a diving play coming in on a shallow fly ball.

Central Nebraska Stars vs. Coast to Coast (SD)

+ '19 Reed Homann, RHP, Coast 2 Coast. High 3/4 arm slot that topped at 83 mph. Sat 80-82 w/ avg. feel for the strike zone. 

+ '18 Thad Huber, RHP, Central Nebraska Stars- topped at 85 mph, and sat 80-84 with feel of 70-73 mph breaking ball. Some funk in delivery with changes in tempo. 

+ '20 Cody Rohuzek, OF, Coast to Coast- showed a solid line drive swing plane from the right side. Drove in two runs during the game. 

+ '18 Zane Schmidt, C- stroked a two RBI double late in game to extend the Central NE Stars lead. 


Omaha Elite Black 18U vs. Elite Baseball Academy

Omaha Elite won by a score of 9-1.

+ '18 Colby Gomes (Nebraska commit)- tall athletic build with wiry strength.  Easy actions and plays with athleticism. Tall narrow stance. Line drive swing plane. Deep home run to left and double off left field fence. Stolen base and 2 RBI's in contest vs. Elite Baseball Academy (MO)

+ Uncommitted '18 Ethan Peterson was 83-86 mph early inn his start for Omaha Elite vs. Elite Baseball Academy from Missouri. Peterson has a compact arm action driving his fastball downhill with flashes of cut like to his glove-side. The breaking ball is solid and Peterson shows good hand-speed and should show velo jump in future.

+ Uncommitted ’18 Braydan Hlavac hit a a grand-slam and had 4 RBI’s in the contest.

+ Gomes, Hlavac, Caiden Hill, Jaxon Walls each had RBI’s in the contest.

+ 2018 Hunter Brown started on the mound for Elite Baseball Academy. Brown, RHP, was 82-84 mph touching 85 mph; with compact arm action. Fastball shows signs of life up in zone with predominantly running action. 11/5 breaking ball was 69-72 mph and changeup flashed above avg. fade.

+ C Kazuki Kanda (Elite Baseball Academy)- small frame behind plate. Quick feet and above avg. blocker. Easy arm action with quick release on throws.

Nebraska Prospects-Hohl vs. Iowa Sticks Scout

+ Uncommitted 2018 Drew Irvine, RHP, Iowa Sticks Scout - Fastball was 84-86 mph, touching 88 mph, with heavy run to his arm-side. Plus sink on his change-up; thrown at anytime in the count. Above average feel for 74-75 mph breaking ball. Irvine struck out 8 in four innings of work. 

+2018 Dalton Hews, OF/RHP, Iowa Sticks- was 80-83 mph with his fastball from a mid 3/4 arm slot. Strike thrower. 

+ 2018 Joe Richter, RHP, Nebraska Prospects- was 82-85 in his first innings of work with a 75-76 mph slider. 


Nebraska Prospect- Hohl vs. Team MaxBat 

+ 2018 RHP, Shea Zetterman, Nebraska Prospects - Fastball topped at 88 mph, sat in the 80-86 range throughout. Struck out 5 over 3 innings of work. 

+ 2018 C, Griffin Everitt, Nebraska Prospects- Kansas City Kansas CC commit gunned down the two runners who tried to steal. Also went 2-2 at the plate with a double and single. 

+ 2018 OF, Grant Carl, Nebraska Prospects- went 2-2 at the plate including a double. 

+ 2018, LHP, Jacob Myer, Team MaxBat topped at 82 mph from a mid 3/4 arm slot. Sat in the 78-80 mph range. Had trouble at times commanding the zone, showed feel for 66-67 mph breaking ball. 

+ 2018, RHP, Brandon Doty, Nebraska Prospects struck out 7 in his 4 innings of work. Fastball was 84-87 mph with feel for 66-67 mph breaking ball.

Omaha Elite Black vs. Prodigy Baseball-KC

'18 Josh Olson- RHP- Thin frame with long legs. High to mid 3/4 arm action. Varies slots to create deception. 79-82 mph with above avg. 2-seam action into right-handed hitters. Pitches in consistently inducing jam shots and weak contact. 

+ Uncommitted ’18 Alex Pavon drew 2 walks, had a stolen base, and showed 4.59 speed home-to-first.

+ ’18 Micah Savine was 2-3 with a double, single, and an RBI in the game.

+ 2018 Dylan Wagner had a single, walk, RBI, and a stolen base. Wagner is a physical presence in box. Smoked a hard line drive single past the pitcher. Shows solid actions at third base and arm plays with carry and accuracy to bag.

+ Uncommitted ’18 Jaxon Walls had a 2 RBI triple in the contest and also drew 2 walks. Walls is a barrel chested left-handed hitter who has the ability to platoon across the infield.

+ ’18 Ethan Peterson shows athleticism in field and on mound. Had a home run and a double; showing solid speed with a 4.6 running time on the turn.

+ Prodigy Baseball’s ’18 Doug Wood has a smaller athletic frame with present strength. Quick twitch actions in field. Makes routine plays, flashes glove and footwork, avg. arm strength and projects as college second baseman.

+ Prodigy’s Ben Jones, 2020 grad, had a triple to the right-center gap.

+ ’18 Ian Jacobs, shows an above avg. left-handed swing, and had a single, walk, and an RBI. Easy load with extension through contact; clean swing plane and has rhythm at plate.
