Preseason Preview: Wooster HS

By Chris Valentine
PBR Ohio Scouting Director

Wooster High School looks to improve on a 14-8 campaign in 2012, but they will have to do it without last year’s ace Luke McGee, who is now a part of the pitching staff at The Ohio State University.

However, this year, the Generals have more depth and experience than in years past. There are five returning starters in the lineup and three returning pitchers. But, even more important, Coach Boyd’s squad has an injection of young talent that will be counted on to compete for a conference title against Ohio Cardinal Conference foes West Holmes, Ashland, and Orrville.

Class of 2013

  • RHP/3B Nick Buckingham – The 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete put together a 5-2 record with a 2.99 ERA last year while also hitting .398.
  • Catcher Seth Carnahan – The 6-foot-1, 190-pound catcher will handle the Generals’ pitching staff and look to improve upon his .275 average in 2012.
  • 3B/OF Aric Saal – The 6-foot, 185-pound prospect hit .380 last year.

Class of 2014

  • RHP/2B Tom Huettner – The 6-foot-2, 185-pound two-way prospect went 2-1 last year a sophomore. He figures to aid the offense with a smooth stroke from the left side.
  • RHP/IF Ben Murphy
  • RHP/1B Adam O’Brien

Class of 2015

  • RHP/SS Cam Daugherty – The 6-foot-5, 210-pound prospect is a big time athlete, who also served as the starting quarterback this fall and a two-year member of the varsity basketball team. Last year, as a freshman, he hit .412.
  • LHP/1B Ryan Lally – The 5-foot-10, 200-pound southpaw displayed a low to mid 80’s fastball over the winter.
