Finding a player that can play multiple positions is only a bonus for any baseball program. Versatile players leave coaches with options, which is always a good thing. Gallatin sophomore David Russell showed his versatility at the Preseason All-State Showcase, showing well at multiple positions during the event.

At 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, Russell possesses an athletic frame with plenty of room to continue to add to it. During Defensive drills, Russell started off by showing soft hands and good footwork during infield drills. He showed natural instincts and had a position velocity of 82 mph. Russell has the ability to play both corner positions in the infield at the next level. Behind the plate, Russell showed good receiving and blocking skills. He showed 77 mph arm strength from the crouch and pop times that ranged from 2.01-2.09.

Offensively, the right-handed hitter showed good bat speed during his round of batting practice. He hits from a tall/open stance and uses an aggressive stride while still maintaining balance. Russell has a good approach at the plate and is a gap to gap type hitter. He has power potential and could eventually develop into a power type hitter as he continues to get stronger. Russell ran a 7.42 60-yard dash at the event.

Look for Russell to be a prospect to keep an eye on throughout his high school career.
