By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

The PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games event took place on September 28 at Rose Park in Nashville.  The event included 35 uncommitted seniors still looking for a place to continue their education and baseball careers.  The following is analysis of all Team Black position players from the event.  This is position player analysis only.  Those players who also pitched for Team Black at the event will be featured in a subsequent article.

Middle Infielders

Jackson Arnold, SS/RHP, R/R, Lebanon HS, 2015
6-foot, 145-pound prospect posted a 7.14 60-yard dash and 79 mph tee exit velocity. Throws from the high-3/4 arm slot with medium action, shows athleticism in the field, fluid lateral movement, quick, clean exchange, plays through the ball, shows accuracy on throws with line carry to the bag at 79 mph, starts from a balanced hitting stance, though he has slight arm bar he takes a level path to the ball and showed line drive ability. Had a single up the middle and a double in game play where he was 2-for-5.

Matt Westberry, RHP/2B/OF, R/R, Eagleville HS, 2015
6-foot, 140-pound prospect posted a 7.83 60-yard dash and 73 mph tee exit velocity. Blake Dutton, 2B, R/R, Carter HS, 2015
5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect posted a 7.35 60-yard dash and 62 mph tee exit velocity. Showed some noticeable improvement from his last outing at the North Tennessee College Prospect Showcase. Over the top arm slot, longer arm action and 69 mph position velocity would have him better suited for 2B, footwork was quicker, cleaner exchange with accuracy, arm strength needs to improve, hit ball with more consistency to all fields. Recorded a single in game play where he was 1-for-4.

Adam Newton, 2B/1B, R/R, Harpeth HS, 2015
6-foot-1, 175-pound prospect posted a 7.25 60-yard dash and 73 mph exit velocity. Not yet a finished product with some size and plenty of room to make strength gains. Medium arm action with high-3/4 arm slot and 77 mph across the field, accurate, line carry to the bag, still needs to make improvements to footwork, hits from a slight crouch with short stride, timing was off, but showed power with an uphill swing when he put it together. Strength gains will benefit offensive game, went hitless in game play but showed patience at the plate.

Hits from open stance, good load, short stride, good approach and rhythm, level bat path to ball, good extension, showed  quick hands, line drive ability with a gap to gap approach, took solid round of batting practice, made solid contact with two hard hit singles in game play, improvement in speed will lead to more opportunities to play outfield at the next level.

Strong, athletic body type, room to add more size and strength, corner projection at the next level in the outfield with 60 time (7.12), arm velocity (76 mph) with accurate throws to the third base bag, fluid movements, over the top arm action.  Shows a good offensive approach, balanced stance, short stride, creates torque with good usage of strong lower half, shows gap to gap approach, though held hitless in game play ball jumped off the bat during a solid round of  batting practice.

Charlie Gill, RHP/OF, R/R, Harpeth HS, 2015
6-foot, 187-pound prospect posted a 7.68 60-yard dash and 82 mph tee exit velocity. Strong body type with wide shoulders, long over the top throwing action, plays through the ball, quick arm action with consistent 84 mph throws to the bag with line carry and accuracy. Solid approach at the plate, maintains good balance, quick hands, toe tap, tends to drop hands but shows adequate bat speed and gap to gap power potential.

Kyle Schmitt, RHP/OF, L/R, Wilson Central, 2015
