Statistical Analysis - Washington Prospect ID

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Bellevue, WA - On July 1st we held our Washington Prospect ID showcase at Bannerwood Park. The event consisted of players from across the state in the 2020-2023 graduating classes. Players ran the 60, took BP, showcased at their defensive position and we finished the day with bullpens.

All players receive an online profile with their verified statistics, scouting report, picture and video. Additionally, all subsequent stories written about a prospect will be linked to the player’s profile, ultimately creating a one-stop shop for recruiters. Furthermore, the top players will be listed in our statewide player rankings and overall rankings.

QUICK HITS

Class of 2020:

‘20 INF Kelen Rutz (Kamiakin) showed well at the plate and on defense at SS. He also posted the fastest 60 time at the event. Finds plenty of barrel with his quick, direct swing from the left-side. Produced consistent line-drive contact throughout BP. Defensively he was light on his feet at SS and gets the most out of his arm with a quick exchange and release.

‘20 OF/RHP Roc Ransdell (Ballard) has the tools to impact the game in multiple ways. He has plenty of feel for the barrel with his ‘handsy’ type swing and should be a reliable contact threat at the plate. On the mound, he commands his FB down in the zone with some steep, downward plane. He maintains the same level of control when throwing his 11/5 CB.

Lastly, ‘20 OF Dyson Hindberg (Rogers) has a developed, sturdy frame with the chance to end up as a powerful, corner OF bat. Stays balanced and relaxed in the box while generating bat speed with easy effort. Uphill swing path could lead to more power down the road. Defensively his arm slot is lower than what you might expect from an OF but it works for him and he remains accurate with his throws.

Class of 2021:

Eastside Catholic looks poised to have a reliable infield next season with both ‘21 INF Tommy Martin and ‘21 INF Clint Flippo in the mix. While they’re not the biggest prospects, both players have a noticeable feel for the game to go with mechanically sound actions on both sides of the ball. Martin will be a tough threat at the plate with his switch-hitting ability. Flippo showed impressive barrel accuracy during BP and could be a gap-to-gap power threat as he gets stronger.

Another pair of teammates in the 2021 class to keep an eye on are ‘21 SS/RHP Aiden Van Rensum (Archbishop Murphy) and ‘21 3B/1B Jack Johnson (Archbishop Murphy). A legit 2-way prospect, Van Rensum is a tall, rangy athlete with an intriguing skill set. Posted the top FB velocity (84) and exit velocity (94) on the day. It will be exciting to track his progress and see whether he ends up making the biggest impact with his bat or pitching ability. Johnson also posted a 94 mph exit velocity and fits the profile of a power-hitting corner infielder. Defensively he showed clean footwork and projectable arm action.

Lastly, ‘21 C Tameron Bellefuil (Ballard) has impressive athleticism for the C position to go with some promising offensive ability. Smooth and balanced in the box, he consistently hit line drives throughout his BP with a controlled, fluid swing. Defensively, the catch and throw actions are clean and should steadily improve as he gets more seasoning.

Class of 2022:

‘22 OF/RHP Gaven Jesse (Eastlake) generates considerable pop from both sides of the plate and should grow into more power as he fills out his 6-0, 150 pound frame. Stays balanced after contact and maintains posture thru his high finish. Defensively he has a loose, whippy arm from the OF and stays under control when moving laterally.

‘22 RHP Noah Weintraub (Eastlake) already sits 78-81 with his FB and could tap into more velocity as he gets his lower half more involved in his delivery. Creates some tough downward plane on his FB/CB/CH mix from a high ¾ release point and long limbs. Kept all 3 offerings around the zone and repeats his delivery well.
