Riverview Edges Bloomingdale in Extras 4-3

Riverview received a strong starting pitching performance from 2015 LHP and South Florida commit Garret Bye, and Bloomingdale received a strong performance as well from 2015 RHP Daylon Owens

Bye had 5 IP, 1 ER, and 5 K's while Owens had 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER's, and 3 K's. The only player really to get to Owens was 2016 1B/3B Anthony Gonnella who hit two solo home runs. After no runs scored in the first inning, Gonnella led off the top of the second with a towering solo shot to right. Owens was able to retire the next consecutive three hitters, the last out being on an outstanding diving catch by 2015 OF Doug Sandberg. The bottom half of the second and third inning were both scoreless.

After a scoreless top of the fourth, Danny Lorenzo led off the inning for the Bulls with a hit by pitch and was able to steal second base and reach third on a wild pitch. 2016 INF and FIU commit Austin James was then able to drive in Lorenzo on a deep sac fly to center field to tie the game. The fifth inning was scoreless and the game was 1-1 heading into the sixth. The Sharks broke the tie in the top of the sixth when Gonnella stepped to the plate and delivered another home run that was hit to right-center. This time, Bloomingdale was able to respond immediately when 2015 OF/P Conrado Skepple and Lorenzo were both hit by pitches and then sacrificed over by 2016 C Chase Lackman. Then, what seemed like an inning-ending pop up to third turned into an error that brought in the tying run. The seventh inning was scoreless and the game headed into extra innings 2-2.

After a Bailey Neer walk (2015 C), 2017 INF Freddy Tarnuk roped a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. Bye then stepped to the plate and drove a single up the middle to score both runners and put the Sharks up 4-2. In the bottom half, the Bulls threatened when 2017 OF/P Nate Chevalier hit a two out double to bring them within one and the tying and winning runs on base, but they couldn't come through and Riverview was able to hold on 4-3.
