Jonah PattenSenior RHP Jonah Patten (Norwell HS, IN), the No. 2 prospect in Indiana, is ineligible to play this season after being suspended for violating his school’s athletic code of conduct for the possession of chewing tobacco.

Patten went 4-0 with a 2.07 ERA in 40.2 innings last season, helping Norwell to a 3A state title. He struck out 57. He was the only returning starter from that team. An Arkansas recruit, Patten also served a suspension as a junior for disciplinary reasons.

Patten’s father confirmed in an e-mail that he will play in Perfect Game’s spring league, which starts in March and runs to the end of May. He also mentioned that if he is drafted and decides not to sign, Patten would play this summer with the Midland Redskins until he has to report to Arkansas.

Patten has a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds and a live arm to go with it. He can reach the low 90s with his fastball from a three-quarter slot. He also has a low-80s slider with short break and two variations of his curveball—one in the low 70s and one in the high 70s—that he goes between depending on the count and hitter.
