Prep Baseball Report's Nebraska Spring Preview event took place on Monday, February 20, 2017. The event was held at Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha, NE. The event featured prospects from the 2017-2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.

The event featured players from all over the state of Nebraska and a few from Iowa and South Dakota.

Liam Tinsley, RHP, Lincoln Pius X, 2018
5-foot-11, 140-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 74 mph. Slender build. Was consistently in the zone on a downhill plane with his fastball. 59-60 mph breaking ball had little break and was left consistently to his arm side. 66-60 mph Changeup is thrown down in the zone. Mechanically, repeats motion well. Arm is short on the backside and everything stays in line with the catcher. Arm slows on breaking ball.

Brennan Askew, LHP, Millard West, 2018
6-foot-1, 166-pound left-handed pitcher topped out at 78 mph with his fastball. Fastball is thrown from OT arm slot on a downhill plane with late sink. OT slot.  61-63 mph breaking ball. Has showed improvement since we saw him last fall. 12/6 shape and depth. Change up is firm and elevated at times to his arm side.

Ryan Jungers RHP, Lincoln Southwest, 2019
5-foot-11, 170-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 78 mph with his fastball. Athletic frame. Repeats delivery consistently, slight hip turn adds deception, arm is short on the backside and long out front. Fastball is thrown in the strike zone, pounds the zone. Slider has true shape, sharp late break, has a chance to be an out pitch at the high school level. Change up is down in the zone. High pitchability guy, should continue into a reliable arm.

Cade Flaherty, RHP, Omaha Burke, 2019
6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 74 mph with his fastball. Short high ¾ arm action. Over the top delivery, fastball was straight with occasional sink. Cranks curveball early; 11/5 shape with above avg. down action with tight rotation. Change up was flat and elevated throughout.

 

Cole Wilson, RHP, Papillion LaVista, 2018
6-foot-4, 180-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 85 mph with his fastball. Wiry build, should continue to develop strength. High ¾ arm action that gets the ball on a downhill plane. Mechanically repeats well, arm is long out front. Breaking ball has some depth in the zone, tendency to leave on his arm side. Changeup is thrown with fastball arm speed and a split action down. 


Gavin Hoffman, RHP, Lincoln Southeast, 2018
5-foot-11, 185-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 77 mph with his fastball. Varying action on heavier fastball. Pie arm action from ¾ slot. Solid spin and shape on 67-69 mph breaking ball. Pitch has 11/5 shape with depth down in the zone. 71-73 mph Changeup late downward action, tendency to be firm.

 


Josh Hain, RHP, Lincoln Southwest, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound right-handed pitcher was 73-76 mph with his fastball. Stiff shoulder. Slight downhill plane on fastball with varying run and sink. Inconsistent wobbly shape on 66-70 mph 11/5-12/6 curve ball. Changeup was firm and straight and undeveloped at this time.  

Bryan Craft, RHP, Millard West, 2018
5-foot-9, 195-pound right-handed pitcher topped out at 77 mph with his fastball. Compact barrel- chested build. Repeats mechanics well, arm works clean on the back side and out front. Stays in-line with home plate. Fastball has some life to the arm side. 66-88 mph breaking ball has slider shape, was thrown for strikes in the zone. 72-73 mph change runs to the arm side down in the zone to his arm side.

 

Dawson Linder, RHP, Lincoln Southwest, 2018
6-foot-4, 195-pound right-handed pitcher. Tall lanky project able frame, should continue to develop strength. Long arm swing on backside, becomes compact and then clean out front. 82-84 mph fastball has life with varying run and sink.  Average feel for the strike zone with hammer breaking ball. 11/5 shape with good velo, tight spin, and very late depth. Average arm action on hard 78-79 mph changeup with late run and sink. Strong follow as he continues to develop. Ranked in the top 25 of the 2018 class in Nebraska.

Shea Zetterman, RHP, Lincoln Southwest, 2018
6-foot-3, 220-pound right-handed pitcher. Physical frame, wide hips, present strength in lower half. Effort in delivery, repeats well, pie shaped short arm action in the back, gets long out front. Pounded the strike zone. 82-85 mph fastball is heavy with fade to his arm side. Breaking has 10-4 shape, occasionally left to his arm side, late depth. Change-up was consistently down in the zone. Strong follow for the 2018 class in Nebraska.
