Dan Cevette
Director, New York

19 days ago PBR NY held its first ever Long Island/NYC Preseason Invite Only. The response was positive, the talent was heavy, and the smoke has finally settled. Let's take a look at the first half of the pitching reports from Feb. 20th. In no specific order.

Dominick Vitale, RHP, Massapequa HS, NY (2015)
Vitale stands 6-foot-1, 170-pound with an athletic build on the mound. He uses a side-step, rhythm in his delivery, high knee lift with high hands. He uses a drop and drive method before powering towards home, shoulder separation, long clean arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot. Hips stay closed with a long stride, head over his knee, and finishes his pitches. Shows quick hand-speed. Fastball reached 83 mph.

Dylan Livingston, RHP, Schreiber HS, NY (2016)
Livingston stands 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with an athletic frame. On the mound he uses a big side-step, high knee lift, hands follow high around head. Stays strong on back side, front side leaks open a touch early, some head tilt, down and quick arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball reached 83 mph with late action, more to come. Long stride with a flexible finish, ranked No. 81 in the 2016 NY class.

Peter Theodorellis, RHP, Commack HS, NY (2017)
Theodorellis stands 5-foot-7, 150-pounds with a smaller frame, broad thick shoulders. On the mound he uses a fast side-step, quick delivery, high knee lift, hands stay around his chin. Separates over the rubber, arm action is down and back towards 2B, quick hand speed from an over-the-top slot. Fastball sat 82 mph and looked heavy. He uses a long stride for his size getting maximum hip separation. Finishes over his front leg, slight hyper-extension on landing leg – see that a lot in power arms. Chance to be pretty good.

Anythony Piccolino, LHP, Iona Prep HS, NY (2017)
Piccolino stands 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a very athletic build. On the mound he uses a side-step, high knee lift that crosses over the rubber, shoulder turn, hands separate at his chest. Drops some on his back leg as he powers forward, arm action is down and quick, works easy, throws from a high-3/4 power slot with a fastball sitting 81 mph – velocity projection. His stride is long, uses good hip and shoulder separation, front side could be a little stronger, finishes over his front knee.

Michael Martinez, RHP, Paramus Catholic HS, NY (2016)
Martinez stands a solid 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. On the mound he uses a side-step, good pace to his delivery, high knee lift, hands by his head. He gets some hips lean, shoulder tilt, drives off his back leg, arm action is long and fluid – quick hand speed. Hips stay closed, long stride, throws from an over-the-top slot, fastball sits 80-82 mph with arm run. Finishes over his front side, projectable RHP.

T.J Avgerinos, RHP, Southside HS, NY (2016)
Avgerinos stands 5-foot-10, 151-pounds with a slender-athletic build. He uses a side-step, quick tempo, crosses knee over rubber, hands settle around his belt. Down-clean arm action, quick hand, throws from an over-the-top slot, long stride, fastball reaching 81 mph. Mechanically very fluid. Finishes a little upright over front knee. Projectable lean frame with more in the tank.

Tyler Arella, LHP, John Glenn HS, NY (2016)
Arella stands 6-foot-0, 176-pounds with broad shoulders. On the mound he uses a side-step, tempo throughout delivery, arm action is back and clean, shoulder separation. Hips stay closed, long stride, lands slightly closed, throws from an over-the-top slot, fastball tops 80 mph but no question there is more in the tank. Athletic body, high ceiling, ranked No. 82 In NY 2016 Class.

Carmine Romano, RHP, Shoreham Wading River, NY (2016)
Romano stands a lean 6-foot-3, 173-pounds with signs of more size to come. On the mound he uses a side-step, slower delivery, quick jerky knee lift, hands stay quiet near chest. Stays taller on back side, arm action is back down and shorter, back towards 2B. Front side opens up early, throws from an over-the-top slot, long stride, fastball sits at 80 mph with some deception. Finishes over his front side, momentum carries him straight forward towards target.

Stiles stands 6-foot-2, 175-pounds with a lanky frame. On the mound he uses a side-step, jerky knee lift, high hands. Arm action is back and short, throws from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball has downward depth at 80 mph. He uses a long stride, finishes over his front knee. Projectable arm.

Ben Brown, RHP, Ward Melville HS, NY (2017)
Brown stands a durable 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with a baby face, lots of projection. On the mound he rocks into a side step, balanced delivery. Knee lift is above belt, hands near chin before separation. Shoulders tilt uphill, short-quick arm action, throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball sitting 79 mph, more in the tank. Long stride that he lands closed with, finish is over his front side.

Jon Sell, RHP, Burnt Hills HS, NY (2015)
Sell stands 6-foot-0, 190-pounds with a next-level body. From the mound he uses a side step, drops his hands below his belt, very high quick knee lift. Drives hard off his back leg, Glove side arm drives north some – extending before he brings it back to his chest. Arm action is short and a little choppy, deceptive, very long stride, baseball gets inside his head and shoulder, throws from an over-the-top slot, looks down on release, 79 mph fastball, appeared to be taking it easy – reports of much more velocity.

Joseph Greco, RHP, Bellport HS, NY (2017)
Greco stands 6-foot-1, 175-pounds with a next-level projectable body. On the mound he uses a simple, paced delivery. High knee lift, hands by his head before separation, drives off back side, down arm action, shows ball early on back of arm action, releases ball from a high-3/4 close to over-the top slot. Fastball sits 78 mph with some side action. Long stride off mound, collapses some on front landing leg.

Jake Shickler, RHP, Kings Park HS, NY (2016)
Shickler stands 6-foot-3, 175-pounds with a lean lanky frame. On the mound he crouches from the stretch. Crouches through delivery, drop and drive on back side, lower knee lift, separates hands at belt. Hips open up early creating front side to open as well. Arm action is back towards 2B, a little choppy, throws from a high-3/4 slot, 78 mph fastball with some arm side run. Bend on his landing leg, finishes chin over his front knee.
