With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish

Team Name: Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish

Division: II
2015 Record: 16-13
Conference Record: Independent
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3/3

2016 Team Strengths:

• Pitching experience
• Depth on the pitching staff
• Strong leadership

2016 Team Weaknesses:

• Lack of varsity experience at most positions
• Offensive production the past two seasons
• Getting beyond the district-semis in the past

Coach Outlook: We graduated a large class in 2015 (11 seniors), many of which were two-three year starters and three, four-year starters. We have another large senior class this year, but with much less varsity experience. We will have a lot of competition for everyday position players. Our pitching staff returns the most guys and in my mind, has the most depth and experience. They will need to provide us support and stability as we figure out a consistent lineup. We always play one of the tougher schedules in the area, so although our overall record is not the major focus, we need to win games early in order to build confidence and consistency throughout the season.

• Mitch Whalen, P/LHP, 5'8” 160, SR, three year letter winner, 32.6 IP, 12 ER, 28 BB, 43 SO, 2.57 ERA
• Kyle Kelly, OF, SR, two year letter winner
