2016 Spring Team Preview: Finneytown Wildcats

Team Name: Finneytown Wildcats
Head Coach: Asif Shah
Division: III
2015 Record: 6-16
Conference Record: Cincinnati Hills League, 3-11
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 5/3

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Pitching depth
  • Speed

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • No power
  • Inexperienced

Coach Outlook: I’m very excited about the junior class as well as the depth we have on the mound. Joey Gerbus (JR, RHP), is one of the best pitchers in the league and Byron Famble (SR, OF) returns as the best outfielder in the league. We are a little bit inexperienced in the outfield outside of Famble, but the young players are definitely very promising. Catching is a question mark on the defensive side but offensively should be very formidable.

Top Returning Players:

  • Byron Famble, SR, CF, .353 BA, .476 OBP, 24 H, 3 2B, 1 3B, 12/12 SB, Point Park University commit
  • Joey Gerbus, JR, RHP/INF, 1.93 ERA, 44 K, 40 IP, .308 BA, .423 OBP
  • Jordan Girdler, SR, RHP, 1.75 ERA, Ohio Christian commit

Top Underclassmen:

  • BJ Ward, C, 2018, offensive catcher who will continue to develop behind the plate
  • James Fain, INF/OF, 2018, switch hitting utility player with very good speed
  • Hayden Parker, RHP, 2018, 6’4”, great potential
  • Josh Mitchell, LHP/OF, 2019, 6’4”, smooth swing with good speed in the outfield, very solid arm action with good movement as a young LHP
