2016 Spring Team Preview: Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies

Team Name: Johnstown-Monroe Johnnies
Head Coach: Justin Richards
Division: II
2015 Record: 14-14
Conference Record: Licking County League, 7-9, 5th place
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 7/4

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Starting pitching
  • Speed
  • Defense
  • Senior leadership

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Scoring runs
  • Roster depth

Coach Outlook: We return numerous starters from last season's successful campaign (given our youth in 2015).  We are led by two senior starters (Hastings and Coe), four juniors (Workman, Metz, Carpenter, and Clift) and one sophomore (Schmitt).  Four of our top six contributors on the mound from 2015 return with a full season of varsity experience under their belts.  We'll look for Coe and Hastings to set the table at the top of the order and Schmitt and Workman to drive them in.  The middle to the bottom of the order will need to find a way to manufacture runs against a very competitive non-conference and conference schedule.

Top Returning Players:

  • Dalton Hastings, SS/RHP, 2016, 5'10" 165, R/R
  • Trent Coe, RF, 2016, 5'9" 165, R/R
  • Cody Workman, RHP/OF, 2017, 5'9" 175, R/R
  • Marques Denney, LHP, 2017, 6'3" 185, L/L
  • Will Schmitt, 3B/1B/RHP, 2018, 5'11", 185, R/R

Top Underclassmen:

  • Ty Helmke, UTL, R/R, 2018
