2016 Spring Team Preview: Orange Lions

Team Name: Orange Lions
Head Coach: Nick Gerhard
Division: II
2015 Record: 6-18
Conference Record: Chagrin Valley Conference, 1-9
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 1/1

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Youth
  • Raw talent
  • Defense

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Inexperienced at the varsity level
  • Untested pitchers

Coach Outlook: After graduating nine seniors last season that played the majority of our games, we will be very young this season. We only have three seniors, one of which, Harrison Gross, who has experience on the mound. The 25 sophomores and juniors in the program will compete for starting positions on the varsity level.

Top Returning Players:

  • Harrison Gross, RHP, 2016, 6’0” 180, R/R, only true returning starter, strong arm with college potential, 1-5 record, 7.54 ERA, 26 IP, 31 BB, 29 K

Top Underclassmen:

  • Nick Garofoli, SS, 2018, 5’8” 145, R/R, filled in for us in four crucial games last year and did very well defensively, should compete for a starting position at shortstop this season
  • Joey Fekete, 2B, 2018, 5’9” 140, R/R, solid bat and hard worker, should compete to be a starter for us this season as a sophomore
  • Caleb Zwick, CF, 2018, 5’7” 120, R/R, did very well on JV as a freshman, excellent speed and covers a lot of ground in the outfield, quality base-runner
  • Antonio Baez, C, 2018, 5’10” 135, R/R, split catching duties with Curtis Wood at the JV level last year, quick feet and strong arm, should compete for starting position on the varsity this season
