2016 Spring Team Preview: Portsmouth West Senators

Team Name: Portsmouth West Senators
Head Coach: Chris Rapp
Division: III
2015 Record: 10-13
Conference Record: Southern Ohio Conference, 3rd Place
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 7/4

2016 Team Strengths:

  • We were young last year and learned much from it. We played with teams deep into the game and then our youth would show. We did show improvement throughout the season and that is what you want. We want to continue this and start to peak the last week of April.

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • The players need to understand that they are playing five and six times a week. It is a short season but on the other hand it is very intense. They need to prepare themselves mentally. There will be ups and downs and they need to adjust to it.

Coach Outlook: We play in a very competitive conference. This year any team can beat any team on a given night. The SOC is going to a new format in league play. We are playing the same schools back-to-back on consecutive league nights. With this new format, you need to be deep in pitching. It works well because the deeper you get in tournament play, you will need a solid pitching staff.

PBR Outlook: A young team in 2015 is a year older and with coach Chris Rapp at the helm, the Senators should be competitive in the difficult Southern Ohio Conference.

Top Returning Players:

  • Cody Finley
  • Pat Bays
  • Austin Opperman
  • Aaron Dyer
  • Trent Cole
