2017 Spring Team Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots

Team Name: Patrick Henry
Head Coach: Shawn Sunderman
Division: IV
2016 Record: 11-12
Conference Record: NWOAL, 3-5
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 7/4

2017 Team Strengths:

  • Experience
  • Balance
  • Pitching

2017 Team Weaknesses:

  • Depth (no full JV season last 3 years)
  • Consistency

Coach Outlook: "Showed potential in 2016 season but was not consistent enough to sustain success. Hopefully the shortfalls last season will provide valuable lessons to avoid a season of streaky results."

PBR Outlook: Head coach Shawn Sunderman and his Patriots look to get back toward the top of the talented NWOAL. The Patriots will look for a mix of upper and lowerclassmen to help them compete.

Top Returning Players:

  • Mason Fintel, INF, 2017, 5-11/165 lb, L/R, 2-year starter, 2nd Team All-NWOAL
  • JJ Rettig, OF/LHP, 2017, 5-11/170 lb, L/L, 2-year starter

Top Underclassmen:

  • Jarrett Maas, OF, 6-0/170 lb, R/R, 2-year starter in OF
  • Jordan Moore, UTIL, 5-8/160 lb, R/R, 2-year starter
  • Axel Shanks, INF/RHP, 2019, 6-0/165 lb, R/R. Part time starter as freshmen. Great offseason working on arm strength. Looking to be future leader of team.
  • Christian Petersen, INF/C/RHP, 2019, 5-11, 160 lb, R/R. Started as freshmen. Showed flashes of being a dominating pitcher. Needs more consistency in field and at plate. Sky is the limit on his potential.
  • Brayden Petersen, OF/RHP, 2019, 6-0/180 lb, R/R. Baseball skills are catching up to his physical growth. Natural abilities are a little raw but hard worker getting more comfortable on field. Could be a sleeper on 2017 team.
  • Kolton Holloway, INF/RHP, 2020, 6-0/160 lb, R/R. Great contact hitter, strong arm, aggressive on bases, will look to see action on hill and in top of batting order
