2017 Team Showcase at Wright State University/AIA - Recap

We would like to thank all who participated in PBR Ohio's 2017 Play For Team PBR at Wright State University/AIA. This was a great opportunity for the class of 2018-2020 prospects to be put on college radars. Many players impressed during their individual workouts at the showcase. Below we have the complete statistical results from the event as well as the top performers across various different categories.

2017 Team Showcase at Wright State University/AIA - Recap

Cincinnati Prospects vs Cincinnati Baseball Club

On Sunday Athletes in Action, home to the Sinclair CC baseball program hosted just one game to round out the team showcases.

Bats were alive from the first inning on. In the top half of the first, CBC added two runs thanks to two RBI singles hit by Dylan Doverspike and Garrison Hamilton.

Quickly responding were the Cincinnati Prospects as they plated five runs through the first two innings. 2018 left-handed hitter Drew Klaserner showed well at the plate throughout the day, while most notably blasting a 2 RBI ground rule double.

Going into the top of the 6th the score was knotted at 5-4 favoring the Prospects. This quickly changed as CBC’s 2019 prospect Mason Holloway plated two runs with a stinging two RBI double. CBC went onto push five runs across the board taking a commanding 9-5 lead.

CBC added another run in the top of the seventh stretching their lead to 10-5.

The Cincinnati Prospects were not willing to go down easy as they rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Justin Donovan and Matt Fink both delivered clutch doubles and tightened the score at 10-8. The prospects managed to get the tying run to the plate, but crafty right-hander Dylan Ooten stopped the threat as CBC took home the 10-8 victory.

PBR White vs Cincinnati Riverbats

The evening match-up between PBR Fall Team – White and the Cincinnati Riverbats offered plenty of offense throughout.

PBR – White came out of the gates hot and looked as though they would run away with the game. Through the first three innings PBR – White managed to tally up eight runs.

Production came via a triple by 2019 Connor Hallas. Evan Martin and Kevin Kalfas also got in the act as they delivered run scoring doubles.

Going into the 4th PBR – White had themselves an 8-3 lead.

Tide began to turn as the Riverbats worked station to station and added five runs to their total in the 4th/5th inning. Leading the way for the Riverbats were; Jarod Hamlin, Lucas Rotello, and Aidan Post all recording RBI singles.

With the game tied at 8-8 the two teams entered the 7th frame.

The Riverbats kept the heat on and manufactured a handful of runs that led them to an impressive come from behind victory.

PBR Red vs 5-Star National

Saturday afternoon offered a match-up with plenty of talent on the diamond as PBR Fall Team - Red took on 5-Star National.

PBR’s Team - Red sent out the top ranked player in Ohio’s 2018 class to the mound, Austin Becker. The Vanderbilt commit showed why he stands atop his class as he featured an 87-90 mph fastball that ran up to 92 mph at times. Paired with the fastball, his 73-75 mph breaking ball displayed plus late break in the zone that could keep any hitter off balance.

Becker’s counterpart was Archbishop Moeller’s 2019 graduate Dade Hensley.

Hensley gave his squad plenty of confidence in the early going as he struck out six straight batters to start the game.

5-Star’s offense came out of the gates hot. Attributing to the damage was both Derrick Mayes and Blake Delong (KY), as both recorded RBI singles.

With a 4-0 lead entering the top of the 3rd, 5-Star National never looked back.

PBR Team - Red was able to manufacture their first run of the game in the 4th via walk.

Entering the top of the 5th, 5-Star added to their lead stringing together a five run inning. Both Derrick Mayes and Michael Tennie added to their strong performance stroking an RBI doubles, stretching their lead to 9-1.

PBR Red showed some life in the closing innings as 2020 Jordan Davis and 2018 Madison Jeffrey produced RBI hits; but the distant 5-Star lead kept PBR Team - Red in check.
