Countdown to Signing Day: Xavier's 2013 Recruiting Class

With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Earlier, we reviewed the recruiting classes from AkronBowling GreenCincinnatiDaytonKent StateMiami UniversityThe Ohio State UniversityOhio UniversityToledo, and Wright State University. Now, we move on to Xavier.

XAVIER

Coach Googin’s commitments from Ohio in the 2013 class have a common theme: long and lean.

The first commitment from Ohio came in the former of local product Joe Gellenbeck, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound athletic two-way prospect from St. Xavier. The long, projectable prospect shows plenty of potential and promise for the next level.

Next, Xavier secured a commitment from Granville corner infield prospect Ethan Schmidt. The 6-foot-6, 180-pound prospect is an under-the-radar prospect that shows plenty of potential with his bat. This fall, he performed well with the Giants Scout team at several Perfect Game events against top level pitching. Jacknewitz

Next, Xavier stayed in the family by securing a commitment from Dublin Coffman’s 6-foot-5, 180-pound right-handed pitcher Jason Hall, the younger brother of current Musketeer Adam Hall.

Lastly, Xavier picked up a late commitment from Watterson southpaw Greg Jacknewitz. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound lefty was seen by recruiting coordinator Nick Otte at the recent October 14th PBR Miami Valley Open ID. He continues Watterson’s pipeline to Xavier by following Seth Willoughby (2012 Rockies draft pick) and Brian Bruening.
