LIMA, OH - Two Western Buckeye League rivals met on a cold, windy night and the host Lima Bath Wildcats shutout the Celina Hunter Weis vs CelinaBulldogs 3-0 behind the arm of senior Hunter Weis (pictured right).

Lima Bath (8-1, 2-1 WBL) had a few chances in each inning to put a run on the board, but were unable to get anything across until the fifth.

In the fifth, Bronson Best reached on an error on a routine ground ball. Best advanced from first to third on a sacrifice bunt by leadoff hitter Tyler Stahr (who earlier roped two singles). Unsigned senior Colin Gossard drove Best home on a laser up the middle to put the Wildcats on top 1-0.

Bath added two insurance runs in the sixth as Cam Jenkins (catcher) drew a leadoff walk. Pinch runner Luke Niebel advanced to third on a double to right field by Hunter Weis. After a strikeout, Cam Clark (third baseman) drove Neilbel home on an RBI single and Best put the Wildcats on top 3-0 with an RBI single.

The three runs were more than enough for the left-handed pitcher for Bath.

The unsigned senior LHP cruised through the first four innings, allowing just one walk. Weis gave up his first hit in the fifth, an infield single by junior Stephen Fleck, who was picked off a couple of pitches later. Sophomore Jacob Homan led off the top of the 6th with an infield single for the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-1 WBL), the second and last hit on the night.

With the win, Lima Bath sets up a WBL showdown in Defiance on Thursday, as No. 1 Defiance (D-II) will host No. 10 Lima Bath (D-II). Austin Hancock vs. Colin Gossard, could be a classic and PBR will be there.

Notable performances in the game:

  • Hunter Weis, went the distance on the mound allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out four. At the plate, the left-handed hitter went 2-for-3 with a single and double.
  • Tyler Stahr, Bath's leadoff hitter roped two singles and had a sacrifice bunt.
  • Colin Gossard, went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and a walk.
  • Jimmy Luebke, went six-plus innings on the mound, allowing two runs on just four hits and two while striking out two.
