Jack Steibel RHP / 3B / Mason, OH / 2020

MASON - Two years ago ago, Jack Steibel was a sophomore at Moeller committed to play at Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Now, the 16th-ranked 2020 in Ohio is attending Mason and in search of a college home.

“I strained my UCL the winter before junior year,” reflected the top-ranked uncommitted senior in the state. “I was going to try and rehab but I hurt it again in the spring and missed my entire junior year spring and summer seasons.”

It meant reevaluation time for Steibel.

“I like Miami,” Steibel pointed out. “My decision was based on being set back a year and the potential to not be ready to contribute to an ACC program with the type of players they bring in.”

So Steibel stepped away from his commitment to Miami in October with interest from other schools soon following.

“Junior colleges have reached out and Toledo offered me this past winter,” explained Steibel. “I like Toledo a lot. I really liked talking with the new head coach and I think the program is going to come up.”

Steibel has also weighed other options.

“A couple post-grad schools also contacted me,” Steibel said. “My plans were to throw in the spring and see how it goes with the draft.”

But that is now on hold with school closings across the state.

“It will be interesting how it all plays out,” noted Steibel, who transferred to Mason after his sophomore year of high school.
