2017 Future Games Workout Notes - Team Ohio

Day one of the PBR Future Games took place today with a position player workout at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. Team Ohio position players ran 60’s, participated in defensive evaluations, and took batting practice on the field in front of 150+ college coaches.

Team Ohio position players showed well in multiple areas today and below we take a look at some of the quick hits from the workout:

Joseph Powell, C/INF, Mason, 2019
Versatile defender who could be used as a utility guy at the next level. Powell showed good feet and the ability to play through the ball with ease in the infield. Transfer is quick and he uses shorter arm action. Glove works well. Behind the dish he is a well above average athlete for the position. Feet are quick and he gets out of his stance with athleticism. Arm is an average to above average tool. Recorded pop times in the mid 1.9s for the most part.  Loading sequence is fluid and efficient. Barrel flows through load into launch with rhythm. A line drive swing with enough strength and bat speed to find the gaps. A solid all-around prospect who should turn some heads in game play.

Avery Fisher, INF, Ontario, 2019
Looked comfortable and athletic in the infield. Showed confident actions with impressive glove skills. Has the tools to stay in the middle at the next level. At the plate he initiates his loading sequence through a leg kick. Bat has some quickness to it and strength is a better tool than frame would suggest. Path is level to slightly downhill. Worked to his pull side during BP.

Leighton Banjoff, OF, Elyria Catholic, 2019
Worked out with Team Ontario. A top performer at TPG who once again stood out with his hit tool. Showed an impressive combination of natural tools and feel for the barrel. Bats get through contact with ease on a level path. Ball jumps off his bat and he generates easy backspin. In the outfield he projects as a corner guy. Uses fluid footwork approaching the baseball and plays through it well. Threw with accuracy and carry.

Seth Logue, RHP/SS, Moeller, 2020
The two-way talent showed off his abilities as a position player today. A middle infielder that attacks the baseball. Has some bounce to his first step and moves well out of his funnel. Showed good actions and a big arm across the infield. At the plate he has an efficient swing that finds the barrel often. Path is level and barrel whips through contact well. Look for him to impress on the mound.

Justin Silverstein, SS, Turpin, 2020
A twitchy athlete that reacts well of the bat in the infield. First step is quick and lateral mobility is impressive. Changes directions with ease, showing good body awareness. Hands are soft and ball skills are solid for class. Transfer is very quick. Looks to be able to stay at shortstop at the next level. At the plate he uses a small leg lift for timing. Shifts weight to front side at swing decision. Bat is quick and he has more strength than frame would suggest. A line drive guy who shows all the signs of growing into more juice.

Jordan Stevens, OF, University School, 2020
Much more physical than your average 2020 grad. Started off a bit amped up but drove the ball with authority when he settled in. His advanced natural tools show up in his swing. Stays very fluid throughout swing sequence and looks to really understand his swing movements, easily repeating his swing. High upside bat who projects to hit for power. In the outfield he moves well and has above average ball skills. Arm is average at this stage and how that tool develops will likely determine which spot he ends up at.

Josh Romans, SS, Jackson, 2020
Started as a freshman on Jackson’s state championship team. A shortstop with good actions and feel for the spot. Feet and arm both work. Hands are soft and the glove is well above average. At the plate he uses a simple approach mechanically. Separates well, creating torque and allowing his hands to work freely. Strength stands out in his swing. Displayed regular gap pop, generating consistent backspin.

Logan Danzeisen, OF/RHP, Sylvania Southview, 2020
A two-way talent who showcased his abilities in the outfield and at the plate today. A smooth swinging lefty with feel at the plate. Loading sequence is relatively simple yet efficient. His level path allows him to use the entire field/create a margin for error in timing. Hands are loose and free throughout swing. Barrel has some whip and authority through the zone. Has potential for some loft power to his pull side.  A corner outfield type that takes a good approach to the baseball. Maintains fluidity through fielding into his transfer. Arm looked solid, ball gets out of his hand well and throws showed carry.

Mackenzie Wainwright, OF, St. Edwards, 2020
At 14 years old Wainwright is almost a full calendar year younger than most 2020s. The No. 1 ranked player in the class already has an impressive frame but is still far from his ceiling athletically. Looks comfortable and confident in the outfield. Moves with fluidity and plays through the baseball well. Arm is an above average tools for his class. At the plate he showed a rhythmic swing with an all fields approach. Line drive type guy who should grow into a regular power threat. Has the potential to grow into a 5-tool guy.

Carson Nicodemo, 1B, Lake, 2020
Nicodemo stood out in BP today amongst a talented group of Team Ohio hitters. The left-handed bat doesn’t get cheated at the plate. The combination of natural tools, physicality, and aggression make him fun to watch. Possesses all the tools to be a regular power threat down the road. A first baseman with some feel around the bag. Glove skills are average to slightly above average. Bat is his top tool but he has the functional athleticism to grow into a solid defender as he matures.

Trent Belli, 1B, Dublin Jerome, 2019
A projectable left-handed hitter who is far from his ceiling. Already shows impressive pop and has much more in there once he fills out his projectable, 6-foot-4 frame. Profiles as a run producer at the next level with his strength and natural loft. Ideal frame for the position with athletic feet around the bag. Hands are soft and glove skills are more than adequate for the position.

Garret Gray, C, Circleville, 2019
Gray had an impressive all-around day. Loading sequence was fluid, creating energy and consistent timing. Launches from a balanced position with some natural loft. Barrel acceleration at swing decision was impressive. Consistently drove line drives with authority. Behind the plate he showed an above average skill set across the board. Top defensive tool looks to be his arm. Ball jumps out of his hand and throws were mostly on target. Popped times between 1.95-2.02.

Spencer Stanton, 1B/OF, Jackson, 2019
The smooth swinging lefty had a solid performance in BP. An upper half dominate hitter who has a ton of feel for the barrel. Natural tools are above average and his long levers allow him to do damage when he gets extended. Has the look of a high average guy who has potential to grow into some power. Worked out in the outfield and at first base. Has the functional athleticism and ball skills to be an adequate defender at first base or the corner outfield.

Michael Holdsworth, SS, St. Ignatius, 2019
Worked out with Team Ontario. In the infield he has athleticism to his footwork and plays through the baseball well. Actions are solid in general. Throws with intent across the diamond. Starts in a crouched setup at the plate prior to his leg lift load. Has some twitch through the zone, showing pull side pop. The type of bat that can play a variety of roles in a lineup.
