OUTLOOK:

The Redskins of Coach Brandon Moore return a lot from a 16-8 team in 2019 (lost 12 games due to rain). Eight positional starters return and four pitchers that logged innings a year ago return as well. The Redskins may lack some power and speed in the lineup but the ‘20 squad should be a formidable one. Senior 3B/RHP Daniel McCary (UAH signee) returns after hitting .403 a season ago with 8 2B’s, 3 HR’s and 24 RBI’s. McCary was also 3-2 on the mound with 51 K’s in 34 ⅔ IP and a 1.43 ERA. Junior LHP Brodie McCracken (UAB commit) also returns on the mound after going 5-1 with 1 save as a sophomore in 2019. He struck out 53 hitters in 40 ⅓ IP and had a miniscule 0.52 ERA. Austin Nix is a senior infielder that can play anywhere on the dirt as well as catch. He hit .345 a year ago and should be an integral part of the offensive lineup this season. Nix is still uncommitted as is senior RHP Harris Burns, who was 4-1 on the mound in 2019 with 64 K’s in 41 IP and a 1.87 ERA. Three additional juniors look to follow up strong sophomore campaigns. C Brodie Devaney can limit running opportunities for opposing teams behind the plate as he also hit .350 in 2019. OF Will Moye is a strong armed CF with surprising pop at the plate and OF Beau Ragsdale returns after hitting .358 with 7 2B’s, 3 3B’s and a HR as a sophomore last season. Sophomore INF Braden Moore shows smooth actions on the dirt and with above average hands and speed after being perfect on on stolen base attempts as a freshman a year ago. Moore will be sidelined until late March due to injury. Sophomore INF/RHP Luke Hodge will also be looked on to hit with some power in the lineup this year. Hodge will also toe the rubber as well and shows a strong arm with above average spin and pitch ability. '21 INF Andrew McElvey also returns to the infield and is a solid defender with the glove. McElvey will be counted on this season to provide more production with the bat. The 2020 season should be an exciting one for the Redskins.
