Southpaw looking for a new home

Buddy Gouldsmith
Nevada Scouting Director

LAS VEGAS, NV – Palo Verde lefthanded pitcher, ’19 Austin Raleigh, is looking for a new home.  The former UNLV commit, Raleigh committed to play at UNLV at the end of his freshman year. As the end of his high school career looms, he is reopening the recruiting process.  The 6-foot-3 210 southpaw is 2-0 in 23.2 innings, posting a 2.66 ERA. He has struck out 27 and walked 8.  At the plate, Raleigh is hitting .324 in a competitive Mountain Region.

’19 Austin Raleigh, OF/LHP (Palo Verde)

Uncommitted, 6-foot-3 210, Raleigh has a sturdy frame with present physicality.  On the mound, he maintains a methodical, repeatable delivery throwing from a high ¾ slot.  Last seen in the Fall ’18, he pitched with a fastball ranging 83-85 with occasional straight fade. He featured two off speed pitches, one with slider spin that lent more cut action at 77-78. The curveball was 68-71 with solid shape. He casted the curveball a ball at times but showed a feel for spin as well as the ability to throw it for a strike. Likely a pitcher at the next level, he may end some low-end value at a two-year institution as a two-way player and/or left-handed hitter off the bench. In any case, his availability at this time of year is going to be an asset to many programs.
