The Wyoming Prospect ID took place on Sunday April, 15th in Casper, Wyoming at Mike Lansing Field.  30 prospects from around the state of Wyoming showcased their skills in a pro-style work out for the PBR Wyoming Staff.  Click Here for a complete PDF of the state from this event.
Over the next several days, Prep Baseball Report Wyoming will break down each player by position.  We began our look at the Wyoming Prospect ID with the catching position, outfield position, corner infield position and finish with the middle infield position.
Middle Infield Analysis:

Carter Young SS / RHP / Kelly Walsh High School, WY / 2020

5-foot-8, 140-pound left hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.44 60. Left-handed hitter, starts in a slightly open stance, short stride during load, mostly balanced. Attacks the ball from a short path with above-average bat speed. Recorded 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Swing repeats. Defensively, fluid footwork, clean exchange. Long arm action from high ¾ slot, 74 mph across the field.  On the mound, arm action is long and live, high ¾ slot. Fastball has straight life through the zone, sat 82-83 mph. Curveball has 12/6 shape, flashed tight spin, 65-68 mph. Changeup sinks, near fastball arm speed, 70-71 mph.

 

 

 

Jackson McLean 2B / RHP / Kelly Walsh High School, WY / 2020

5-foot-6, 125-pound right hand hitting 2B/RHP who ran a 7.68 60. Balanced and narrow at the plate with a long stride on the swing.  Strong lower leg drive and good whip through the zone.  Swing is uphill with pull side power.  Exit velocity was 76 mph.  In the field he moves well left and right.  Body stays square with a good base.  Arm is high ¾ and accurate at 70 mph.  Tall and fall delivery, directionally in line, square to home on his finish. Fastball was straight, slight run, ranged 74-75 mph. Curveball had 12/6 shape, breaks early out of the hand, 67-68 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, flashed sink in the zone, ranged 69-70 mph.

 

 

 

Zander McFee SS / RHP / Natrona County HS, WY / 2020

5-foot-10, 145-pound right hand hitting SS/RHP who ran a 7.80 60. Slightly open at the plate with a small step to come square.  Top half is quiet and hands sweep through the zone.  Good extension out front and exit velocity was 80 mph. Moves well in the field and anticipates the ball.  Showed good feet and an accurate arm.  Arm velocity was 73 mph.  Righty on the mound and throws from an over-the-top arm angle, average arm speed. Toe lift to balance point with average effort leads to some rhythm and helps land in line. Straight fastball averages between 73-75 mph. Curve was 66-67 mph with 11/5 shape.  Change was his best secondary pitch and sat 69-70 mph.

 

 

 

Tyler Grenz SS / 2B / Cody High School, WY / 2022

5-foot-6, 145-pound left hand hitting SS/2B who ran a 7.49 60. Simple set up at the plate.  Small step and slow load on the pitch.  Swing path is uphill and barrel stays in the zone well.  Exit velocity was 77 mph.  Smooth actions in the field with athletic feet.  Quick glove to hand transfer.  Arm is high ¾ and was 66 mph across the diamond.

 

 

 

Dylan Johnson 2B / SS / Natrona County, WY / 2019

5-foot-5, 130-pound right hand hitting 2B/SS who ran a 7.22 60. At the plate he hits from a balanced stance with a slow load on the pitch.  Good lower leg drive on the swing.  Hands come through the zone on an uphill path.  Exit velocity was 75 mph.   In the field he showed good athletic actions and instincts.  He has soft hands and a good glove to hand transfer.  Arm Velocity was 70 mph with accuracy.

 

 

 

Lane Pedersen RHP / 2B / Natrona County , WY / 2021

5-foot-8, 145-pound right hand hitting RHP/2B who ran a 7.65 60. Balanced at the plate with a double tow tap for timing.  Hands come through the zone uphill and he showed good bat control to all fields.  Exit velocity was 77 mph.  Continues to improve each time we see him.  Drop and drive delivery, directionally in line, slightly closed landing, occasionally falls to first base side, athletic finish. Regular effort throughout, long arm action. Fastball is heavy, sat 71 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, breaks early out of the hand, ranged 60-62 mph. Finished with a 61-62 mph change.
