CENTRAL STATE 8

No. 20 Springfield Sacred-Heart Griffin 13, Lincoln 3
SHG (4-1, 2-0) swept past the Railsplitters at Comstock Field in Springfield. The Cyclones put this one away in the second inning. After scoring four times in the first, the Cyclones put another four-spot on the board and cruised to the CS8 win. Mike Richie was 2-for-2 with four RBI while Alex Mandeville, Sam Sergent, Clayton Taylor and Justin Zanger all had two RBI for the Cyclones. Richie improved to 2-0 on the mound where he did not allow an earned run in his five inning stint, giving up three three hits with nine strikeouts.

Chatham Glenwood 10, Jacksonville 2

The Titans swept away the Crimson in Jacksonville. Chatham Glenwood (2-0, 2-0) jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings and coasted to the CS8 road win. Nick Maton doubled and had two RBI while Austin Fitzgerald added a single and a pair of RBI. Jake Maton and Andy Banaitas each chipped in with two singles and an RBI. Matt Sekardi (1-0) allowed one earned run and three hits in his 5.1 innings of work on the mound to pick up the win. Jacksonville falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CS8.

No.  3 Mount Carmel 9, Bremen 3

Mount Carmel (4-0) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and went on to defeat the Braves in Midlothian. UIC-bound Malik Carpenter and University of Michigan-bound Ako Thomas led the Caravan attack. Carpenter doubled and drove home two runs while Thomas had three doubles and plated one run. University of Louisville-bound Josh Stowers chipped in with a triple and an RBI for MC. Nelson Munoz (2-0) allowed three runs and four hits in five innings to pick up the win on the mound. Munoz fanned eight. Nate Cordova doubled and plated all three runs for Bremen (3-2)

No. 8 Edwardsville 13, Kirkwood (MO) 2
Edwardsville (3-0) crushed Kirkwood at Tom Pile Field behind SIU-Edwardsville-bound catcher Brock Weimer. Weimer had a pair of doubles and drove home five Tiger runs. Parkland College-bound Daniel Lloyd (2-0) allowed a hit in his two scoreless innings on the mound to pick up the win.

No. 10 Nazareth Academy 11, Guerin Prep 1
The Roadrunners scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to put an end to the proceedings in La Grange Park on Thursday. Matt Flach hit a solo shot for Nazareth Academy (4-0) and Joey Muscolino had two singles, two runs scored and drove home a Roadrunner run. Chris Campagna (2-0) picked up the win on the mound allowing one run and two hits with eight strikeouts in his masterful five innings of work.

No. 11 St. Laurence 11, Lake View 0

St. Laurence (1-0) won its season opener at Viking Field in Burbank scoring 11 runs on only five hits. Anthony Rios was 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. John Riordan singled and had an RBI and Frank Greco drove home two without the benefit of a hit. Dan Heiden allowed one hit in his three scoreless innings on the mound to pick up the win.   

No. 12 Metamora 9, No. 22 Jacobs 2
Metamora (5-0) routed the highly-ranked Golden Eagles in a Miner Classic affair, Thursday night in Marion. Brady Fairchild led the Redbird onslaught with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Jake Driscoll chipped in with a double and an RBI. Junior Alex Lewis (2-0) allowed a run and two hits in his four innings on the mound to pick up the win. Classmate junior Geremy Guerrero allowed a run and two hits with five strikeouts to pick up a hold for the Redbirds. Ohio University-bound Ryan Sargent led Jacobs (6-2) with a pair of singles and two RBI.  

No. 13 Prairie Ridge 13, Fremd 4
Prairie Ridge (3-1) smashed the Vikings behind a six home run barrage in Palatine. Cal Aldridge, Connor Schneider, Jake Carpentier, Carson Getzelman, Dustin Thelander and Robin Kim, all went deep for the Wolves. Schneider had four RBI while Carpentier and Thelander plated a pair.

No. 15 Providence 8, Plainfield East 4
The defending Class 4A State Champs from Providence (1-0) won its season-opener in dramatic fashion rallying past the Bengals in Plainfield on Thursday. Trailing 2-1 in the top of the sixth, Mike Madej hammered a shot over the right field fence to tie the game at 2-2. Justin Hunniford and Dave Diehl followed with singles and were driven home on a monster triple to right by Jackson Dvorak for a 4-2 Celtic lead. Drew DeMumbrum went deep for Plainfield East (0-1) and Logan Small doubled and had two RBI for the Bengals.

No. 18 Brother Rice 6, No. 42 New Trier 2
University of Indianapolis-bound Michael Schalsky, continued his torrid hitting, leading Brother Rice (4-1) into the winners bracket of the 2015 Steven M. Bajenski Memorial Tournament. In a Bajenski first-round contest, Schalasky singled, doubled and drove in two runs while junior Ryan Kutt chipped in with a single, double and one RBI. Kutt (1-1) allowed one run and three hits to pick up the win on the mound.  

Morris 7, No. 21 Minooka 5
Morris (1-1) scored seven runs in the second inning and hung on to stun the Indians in Minooka on Thursday. Patrick Rumsey and Brandon Rossiter each had a single and two RBI to lead Minooka (0-1).  

No. 22 Jacobs 10, No. 35 Mundelein 4
Jacobs (6-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and rolled to the victory at Rent One Park in Marion over Mundelein (5-1) on Thursday morning. Bryce Pahl doubled and drove home two Golden Eagle runs while Nate Meland and Branden Heiss each singled and had two RBI for Jacobs. Matt Kozlak chipped in with a single, triple and an RBI

Normal Community 5, No. 22 Cary-Grove 0
The Ironmmen bounced back from their heart-breaking 1-0 defeat to Limestone on Wednesday and blanked the Trojans at 3900 E. Raab Road in Normal. Jake Gilhaus fired six shutout innings at CG allowing just two hits and striking out seven and did not walk a batter to pick up the win on the mound. Addison Fugit tripled home the first two Ironmen run in their four-run second inning. Matt Brown followed with an RBI single plating Fugit. Cary Grove heads back to Cary after a 3-3-1 Southern and Central Illinois Spring Trip.

No. 26 Lincoln-Way West 12, Joliet Central 0
Lincoln-Way West (2-0) rolled past the Steelmen behind a combined five-inning no-hitter from Steve Skolarz (1-0) and Trevor Dallio. Skolarz fired the first four innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. Dallio wrapped the no-no up with a hitless fifth with two strikeouts. The Warriors were led at the plate by Matt Monahan who singled, homered and plated three Warrior runs. Junior Adam Knerr was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI.

Montini 4, No. 30 Lyons Township 2
Montini (2-0) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to break up a 2-2 tie and stun the Lions in Lombard. The Broncos loaded the bases on walks. With no out Brandon Shilgalis struck out but Anthony Vosicky, who walked and scored the lead run on a passed ball. Later in the inning Jake Pestel, who had walked, stole home for a big insurance run for Montini. Alex Luca allowed a run and four hits with six strikeouts in his three innings of relief to pick up the win.    

No. 32 Benet Academy 5, Wheaton North 1
Benet (1-1) scored four runs in the bottom of the first and rolled to its first victory of the season at home in Lisle. Conor Hayes (1-0) fired six shutout innings at the Falcons allowing three hits with seven strikeouts. Hayes chipped in with a double and an RBI at the plate. Alex Tassos also doubled and drove home a Redwing run.     

No. 38 Notre Dame 2, Evanston 0

Last season the Dons started and ended their season with a loss to Evanston. Notre Dame lost the regional championship to Evanston 2-1 on their home field. The Dons got revenge on Thursday with a 2-0 victory.

Seven Notre Dame pitchers combined to throw the 2-hit shutout, and the staff combined for 10 strikeouts on the day.  Scott Kutschke (2-0) earned the win in his one inning of work to start the game. Adnan Sator, Brandon Nowak, Nick Stefanowicz, Tim Simon, and Sam Ferri (save) all recorded perfect 1-2-3 innings.

The Dons jumped out to a lead in the first inning when Thomas Norton led off the game with a double, advanced to third on a Mike Ferri groundout, and scored on a line drive single by Arizona State University bound Sam Ferri.

ND added an insurance run in the 4th on a sacrifice fly by Shaun Polakow that scored pinch-runner Dylan Hyde. The Dons will be back in action on Saturday against New Trier at Duke Childs Field.

No. 41 Sandburg 10, No. 17 Lemont 0
Sandburg (1-0) smoked the defending Class 3A champs from Lemont in the season-opener for both schools. Jimmy Roche (1-0) fired four scoreless innings at the Indians allowing just three hits with five strikeouts. Roche ripped a pair of doubles and drove home the only run he would need, plus two more. Sean McShane chipped in with a pair of singles and two RBI.

No. 43 St. Joseph-Ogden 11, Westville 0
SJ-O (5-1) won behind a combined no-hitter from EIU-bond Cole Berry (2-1) and Dalton Parker. Berry threw the first three hitless innings fanning three and Parker had a hitless fourth and fifth inning to complete the no-no. Berry and Alex Hager went deep for the Spartans.   

Barrington 5, Bob Jones 1(GA)  
Barrington (2-1) scored three times in the seventh to bust open the game with their Peach Tree State foes, and go to on to its second victory in Georgia. Brooks Gosswein (1-0) allowed an unearned run and four hits in his 6.1 innings of quality work on the mound to pick up the win, with help from Luke Johnson who nailed down the save. Jake Coon led the Bronco attack with two singles and two RBI while Casey Dodge also had a pair of hits and one RBI.

Bishop McNamara 11, Manteno 5
The Fighting Irish improved to 3-0 with an impressive win over Manteno (3-1) on Thursday. Chance Marcotti and Ethan Arrigo each drove home three runs for Bishop Mac. Marcotti had two singles and a double while Arrigo singled and went deep for the Irish. LJ Kurek also hammered a solo shot that left the premises in Kankakee. Brock Crews went deep for Manteno and drove in three runs,     

Champaign Centennial 11, Salisbury School 1
Champaign Centennial (3-1) scored seven times in the fifth inning and rolled to victory behind Quin Nottingham. Nottingham had two singles, a double, scored two runs and drove home four for the Chargers. Dylan Grady chipped in with a single and two RBI. Jeff Lindgren (2-0) struck out nine in his three-hitter for Centennial.

Chicago Christian 5, Lincoln-Way East 2
Chicago Christian (6-0) spotted the host Griffins a 2-0 lead after one inning and then rolled past East in Frankfort on Thursday.  

Geneseo 9, United Township 4
Before heading off to Myrtle Beach SC, the Maple Leafs hammered UT in Geneseo. After spotting United Township (1-2) a 4-0 lead after a half inning, Geneseo rolled behind Bo Lindstrom. Lindstrom plated four Leaf runs while Cooper Humphries hammered a solo shot.

Glenbard East 8, Glenbard West 1

Glenbard East (2-0) clobbered the Hilltoppers at Village Green in Glen Ellyn. Mike Sebby had two singles, a bomb and drove home three Ram runs while Jake Heyman (2-0) fired 4.2 hitless innings to pick up the win. Heyman struck out six and walked four.

Oswego11, Naperville North 3
Oswego (2-1) pounded the Huskies behind Colton White and Carter Turnquist. White singled, doubled twice and had three RBI for the Panthers. Turnquist added a single, double and drove home a pair for Oswego. Turnquist also picked up the win on the mound allowing no earned runs and seven hits in his 5.2 inning stint. Turnquist had nine punchouts.  

Princeville 3, ROWVA 0
Princeville’s (5-0) Bradley University-bound Mitchell Janssen (3-0) struck out 18, that is not a typo,18 batters, in his three-hit shutout masterpiece on Thursday in Princeville. Austin Brodine went 3-for-3 with three singles, driving home all three Princes’ runs.

Reed-Custer 8, Beecher 2
Reed-Custer (3-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the first and erased a 1-0 Beecher lead, rolling to victory at home in Braidwood. Jordan Walden led the Comet attack with three singles and three RBI. Josh Bull chipped in with a single and two RBI. Brent Headrick (2-0) did not allow an earned run in his six innings of work on the mound to pick up the win. Headrick allowed four hits with eight strikeouts.
