Illinois High School Class 3A/4A Predictions

The IHSA Class 3A and 4A playoff play-in games took place yesterday. Class 1A and 2A playoffs started last week and region champions were decided on Saturday.

As this year's 3A and 4A state tournament ramps up, let's take a look at how the state tournament could potentially play out. We skipped regionals and went straight to picking the winners of the various sectional sites.

Due to the seeding format being based geographically, several highly ranked teams will not advance past their sectional. For example, in Class 4A, No. 1 Brother Rice, No. 5 St. Rita, No. 8 St. Laurence and No. 13 Mt. Carmel all reside in the St. Rita Sectional.

Seven teams in the Illinois Wesleyan Sectional have spent time in the Power 25 at some point this year. Current No. 3 O’Fallon, No. 7 Edwardsville, Normal Community, Plainfield South, Moline, Minooka and Alton are all competing in the Illinois Wesleyan Sectional.

In class 3A, the Springfield Sectional looks particularly strong as well. It includes No. 20 Sacred Heart-Griffin, No. 23 Champaign Central, No. 24 Springfield, Mahomet Seymour and Champaign Centennial.
