Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: LHP Jake Latz

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

Jake LatzJake Latz has long been considered one of the premier pitching prospects in the country. But since getting a late start on the season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-hander from Lemont HS has taken his game to a new level.

The LSU recruit has been nearly untouchable this season since making his first start on April 10 for No. 3 Lemont. He has not allowed an earned run this season, and last week exemplified his dominance. He posted two victories last week, including a 3-0 shutout against previously unbeaten No. 9 Lincoln-Way West. In 13 innings last week, he struck out 22, allowed five hits and walked one.

Against Lincoln-Way West, he cruised to a four-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts, one walk and one hit batsmen. In his previous start against Lincoln-Way East, he allowed one hit in six innings pitched and nine strikeouts.

“Jake is pitching at a high level due to his mental approach and preparation between starts,” said Lemont coach Brian Storako. “He has been throwing all of his pitches for strikes, which is making him very tough to hit.”

In his last three starts, a base-runner had advanced to second base only three times against Latz. For the season, Latz is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In 24 innings, he has struck out 45 and walked four, and yielded 12 hits against top-level competition. He has a 0.67 WHIP this season.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Jake Latz for his hard work and success.
