Top Prospect Games: Team Black Analysis

On June 24-25 PBR Indiana hosted the second annual Top Prospect Games at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN on the beautiful all-turf Bart Kaufman field.

Indiana's Top Prospect Games has quickly established itself as one of the premier events in the Midwest with over 100 players participating in the event each of the last two years. 

Below we take a look at notes on players from Team Black: 

In Alphabetical Order by First Name

Anthony Quintero, 3B/1B, Griffith HS, 2016; 6 foot – 1 inch/210 pounds, 81mph across the infield with most throws on target. Long ¾ arm with average hands, plays hard. Solid hitter, makes contact from a balanced stance with a short stride, ball explodes off the bat with good extension through contact. Hits for average and power. Bat will carry.

Brandon Stesiak, SS/3B, Mishawaka Penn HS, 2016; 6 foot-1 inch/160 pounds, Short, quick arm, throws are 81 mph and on target with carry. He has fluid feet, good actions and feel for playing his position, average hands and a good ball transfer. Athletic hitter, balanced stance, short, smooth stride, keeps the bat level through the zone, line drive type hitter.

Brent Hawn, RHP/SS, Delphi HS, 2015; 6 foot/ 175 pounds, Long ¾ arm action with some effort, fastball is 79-82mph and in the zone. Curveball is 68-70mph with early break, change up 74-76. He is a aggressive hitter, with a open, crouched stance, slight top hand wrap and a short stride. Pull hitter. Defensively he has average hands, and a clean exchange and plays hard, throws are 74mph and on target. He has good actions and a feel for playing his position.

Christian McGill, OF, Hamilton Heights HS, 2016; 5 foot-10 inches/165 pounds, Strong and athletic. 84mph from the outfield with a short arm, most throws are on target, average hands, fluid feet and a solid ball transfer. Balanced hitting stance with a smooth, long stride with good extension through contact.  Will hit for power and average.

Connor Christman, C/3B. Noblesville HS, 2016; 6 foot-2 inches/ 185 pounds, projectable frame, 2.22-2.46 pop time. Short, quick arm, throws are 73mph and on target. He has soft hands and receives and moves well behind the plate. Has a balanced stance and a long stride, average bat speed with a long path to the ball. Pull Hitter with projectable pop.  From the INF plays through the baseball with soft hands and good feet. 

Cory Conway, LHP, Noblesville HS, 2016; 6 foot- 1inch/ 165 pounds, Athletic LHP, works slow,  Long ¾ arm delivery, fastball is 77-79 mph with slight movement, 66-68 mph curveball with gradual break and in the strike zone. Change up was 72 mph.

Drake Peggs, MIF, Knightstown HS, 2016; 5 foot-8 inches/ 145 pounds, L/R, Athletic player with above average speed and can move well both ways. Soft hands and a clean ball exchange, throws were 80mph and on target. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride and generates fast bat speed. Slap hitter that will get on base and make things happen.

Grant Rademacher, RHP/MIF, Munster HS, 2015; 6 foot-2 inches /155 pounds, Athletic frame that is going to fill out.  ¾ arm slot with a quick release. Fastball is 79-83mph with sink and in the strike zone, slider is 70-73, change up is 69-72 with sink, fields his position well.

Issac Beaty, OF/RHP, Oak Hill HS, 2016; 6 foot-4inches/195 pounds, Big, strong, athletic player. On the mound his fastball is 79-81mph with little movement, slider/curveball is 61-62mph with gradual break, 70mph change up had slight movement, long ¾ arm slot. From the outfield he threw 84mph and was on target with average hands and a clean exchange. Hits from a balanced stance with a long stride and an inside/out swing path, he gets the bat through the zone quick and will hit for power.

Jake Vernon, C, Concord HS, 2015; 6 foot-1 inch/197 pounds, 2.06-2.16 pop time. Athletic player that works hard behind the plate and plays with passion. Short, quick arm and throws (79mph) are on target with carry. Soft hands with a good feet and a quick exchange. Aggressive hitter with a long stride, average bat speed on a level plain through the zone. Line drive hitter .

Jared Wolfe, OF/INF, Terre Haute South HS, 2015; 5 foot-9inches/ 155 pounds, L/R, Speedy player with good actions and feel for the game.  Can play multiple positions. Long arm action, 75mph from the outfield and 73mph from SS, Average hands, quick feet and good transfer. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride with average bat speed and good extension through contact. Slap hitter.

Leo Watson, C/OF, Brebeuf HS,2016; 5 foot-11 inches/175 pounds. L/R, 2.06-2.26 pop time. Athletic catcher with a strong arm and good feet. Handled pitchers well. Soft hands and a good exchange. Was a battler at the plate, good situational hitter, balanced stance with a short stride, fast bat on a level path to the ball. Line drive hitter.

Matt Bertram, LHP/1B, Castle HS, 2016; 6 foot/170 pounds, On the mound his fastball was 73-74 with slight movement, curveball was 64-65mph with a short ¾ arm slot. He has a plus bat, open stance, long stride with average bat speed and a slight upper cut. Pull/power type hitter.

Matt McConnell, LHP, Lafayette Harrison HS, 2015; 5 foot-11 inches/ 170 pounds, Athletic frame with a long, easy ¾ arm delivery. Fastball is 80-83mph with hard, downhill plain, slider is 67mph with late break and in the strike zone, change up is 73-74 with sink.

Riley Stesiak, INF. South Bend St Joe HS, 2016; 5 foot-10 inches/ 175 pounds, Short, quick arm action across the infield, 79 mph and on target with soft hands and fluid feet and  good actions. Hits from a balanced stance with a long stride with average bat speed on a level plain. Gap to gap type hitter.

Ryan Bettcher, LHP/OF, Laville HS, 2015; 5 foot-11 inches/172 pounds, Repeatable delivery and paints corners. Short. Quick ¾ arm slot, fastball is 85-87 mph with heavy downhill plain and in the strike zone, Slider is 73mph and has late break, changeup is a plus pitch with good sink at 77-78 mph.

Ryan Jones, SS/OF, Charlestown HS, 2015; 5 foot-10/185 pounds, R/R. Throws 83mph from SS with carry and  a short, quick release and on target, average hands with fluid feet, moves well both ways and has a clean ball transfer. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride has average bat speed and keeps it on a level plain through contact. Slap type hitter that will get on base and cause problems.

Ryan Pepiot, RHP/3B, Westfield HS, 2016; 6 foot-2 inches/190 pounds, On the mound he has a long ¾ arm delivery and he misses bats. His fastball is 82-84mph with heavy downhill plain and in the strike zone, slider is 71-72mph late break, change is effective at 77-79 with some sink and deception. Throw all three pitches for strikes. Defensively he has average hands, good feet and solid transfer. He has a balanced stance with a long stride with a fast bat and good extension through contact. Will hit for power and average.

Tommy Waites, OF, Cardinal Ritter HS, 2015; 5 foot-11 inches/ 195 pounds, fast and athletic outfielder that gets a good first step and can close on a fly ball. Throws 87mph from RF to 3b with carry and on target. Average hands, fluid feet and a clean transfer. Hits from a balanced stance with a long stride and a fast bat. He creates good leverage and hits for power, the ball explodes off his bat.
