PBR Alabama Staff

Mary Montgomery 8 Fairhope 7

A battle of ranked 7A teams came down to the very last swing.  After Fairhope managed a run in the top of the first, the Vikings responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.  The Vikings got to Fairhope pitcher Beau Priester in the 4th, extending their lead to 5-1 with hits from Hunter Evans, Brayden Patterson, and Caleb Lovitt

MGM starting pitcher Logan Lawshe was outstanding through five innings, he carried a 5-1 lead into the 6th before Fairhope's Cameron Brock doubled in Keaton Fuller and Logan McKeever.  With two runners on and no outs, Fairhope's Bryce Knox hit a line drive that was snagged by MGM shortstop Blaine Mathis, who then beat the runner to second base for a key double play.

MGM reliever Rylan Parker struck out two Pirates in the 7th.  Trailing 5-3 and down to their last out, Fairhope rallied for three runs to take a 6-5 lead.  Micah Morgan doubled to cut the lead to 5-4.  Fuller's ground ball scored Morgan, and McKeever crushed a double to push Fuller across for the go ahead run.

MGM's rally in the bottom of the 7th started with Mathis and Zach Jones being hit by pitches.  Fairhope's Keaton Fuller took the mound and struck out Hunter Evans for out two. Mathis stole 3rd base and then scored the tying run on a passed ball.  With two out and two strikes, a Patterson groundball resulted in a throwing error that plated Jones for the winning run.
