Alabama Diamond Notes: Week 3


PBR Alabama Staff

The Alabama Diamond Notes will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Tuesday of the high school season that had impressive weeks during their team's games. Special thank you to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

Jake Donaldson RHP / SS / Ragland, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior starred in a two-way last week as he was 5-8 (.625 BA) with two doubles, one triple and two stolen bases. He also had three sacrifice flies, four stolen bases and drove in seven runs. On the mound he was 2-0 with five innings pitched, allowing one ht and no earned runs while striking out eight hitters. 

Dakota NeSmith 3B / 1B / Arab , AL / 2023

The Gadsden Sttate signee continues to swing the bat well for the 5A No. 7 Knights. This week he was 8-11 (.727 BA) with four homeruns and a double. He also drove in seven runs and scored two runs while stealing two bases. 

CJ Bush OF / RHP / Bob Jones , AL / 2023

The senior outfielder hit .600 (6-10) for the week with two doubles and a homerun. The Coastal Alabama East CC signee drove in five runs and scored four runs. Bush also walked twice and stole a base for the 7A No. 2 Patriots. 

Braden Booth RHP / 3B / Bob Jones , AL / 2024

Booth makes another appearance among the weekly honors but it is hard to ignore his impressive stats. The Mississippi State commit was 7-11 (.636 BA) with three doubles and three runs driven in while scoring four runs. The junior also walked once, got hit by pitch twice and stole a base.  

Colton Wombles C / OF / Central-Phenix City, AL / 2023

Wombles, an Auburn signee, has helped the Red Devils to an 11-2 record and a No. 1 ranking in 7A. This week the senior catcher was 6-9 (.667 BA) with two homeruns and three doubles. He drove in six runs and also scored six runs. 

Jax Yoxtheimer OF / RHP / Central Phenix City, AL / 2023

The senior outfielder continues a hot start in 2023 as he was 7-11 (.636 BA) this week for the Red Devils. The UAB signee also drove in six runs and stole three baseballs. 

Hunter Wippert RHP / 3B / Central-Phenix City, AL / 2024

Wippert enjoyed an impressive week in a two-way role as he threw five innings on the mound and only allowed six hits. The junior struck out five hitters and only allowed one run. Offensively he was 3-5 (600 BA) with a homerun and four runs driven in. 

Ty Marsh 3B / SS / James Clemens, AL / 2025

The uncommitted sophomore has continued to turn heads with the bat this year as he was 8-12 (.667 BA) this week with a homerun, a triple and a double. He also drove in seven runs and had a .692 OBP. 

Colten Payton C / 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2023

The Wallace-Hanceville signee had an impressive week with the bat as he was 7-14 (.500 BA) with three runs batted in. He continues to impress behind the plate and had an OBP of above .500 this week. 

Andrew Lawrence SS / 3B / James Clemens, AL / 2023

Lawrence was 5-11 (.455 BA) with a double and a run driven in for the Jets this past week. The East Tennessee State signee also stole four bases while having a .533 OBP. 

Devan Martin C / 3B / Autauga Academy, AL / 2023

It is going to be hard to find a hitter that is hotter than the Huntingdon signee right now. For the week, Martin hit .529 that included five homeruns. He also drove in 13 runs and is currently hitting .462 for the season. 

Brayden Burney OF / 2B / Priceville, AL / 2023

The uncommitted outfielder has helped Priceville reach a 4A No. 5 ranking. For the week he was 8-11 (.727 BA) with a triple and two runs batted in. He also scored five runs and was a perfect 7/7 on stolen bases. 

Jackson Burgess C / OF / North Sand Mountain, AL / 2026

The freshman had an impressive week for 2A No. 9 North Sand Mountain. He hit at a .533 (8-15) clip with two doubles and two triples. He also walked once, was hit by pitch once while also driving in six runs. 

Nicholas Sharp 2B / SS / Madison County, AL / 2024

The uncommitted junior has helped the Tigers get off to a good start in 2023. Sharp, playing 1B and catcher, was 5-12 (.417 BA) this week with a double and a run batted in and two runs scored.

Christopher Fearnside RHP / 3B / Madison County, AL / 2024

Fearnside, an uncommitted junior, also hit .417 (5-12) this week for Madison County which included a double and a triple. He drove in five runs and also walked three times. 

Aaron Wallace 2B / C / Hueytown , AL / 2023

The Gadsden State CC signee had an offensive week that will be tough for anyone to replicate. He was 9-10 (.900 BA) with six runs drive in and also came up big on the mound for the Gophers where he earned a win over Oak Mountain and a save against McAdory with 5.1 innings pitched. He struck out seven hitters. 

Will Greenwood RHP / OF / Jacksonville , AL / 2024

Greenwood delivered in a two-way role this week as he was 1-0 on the mound with nine innings pitched over two appearances. He scattered seven hits and only allowed two runs. With the bat he was 3-7 (.429 BA) with a run scored and seven runs driven in. 

Tucker Arrington 1B / 3B / Thompson, AL / 2024

Arrington, an uncommitted junior has helped the Warriors to a 16-0 and 7A No. 3 ranking. For the week he was 3-5 (.600 BA) with four runs driven in and scoring two runs. He also walked once and was hit by pitch five times.. 

Miles Mitchell 3B / 2B / Thompson , AL / 2023

Mitchell is another valuable piece of an impressive offensive lineup at Thompson as he was 8-14 (.571 BA) this week with four runs scored. The East Mississippi CC signee also drove in five runs. 

Connor Robinson 3B / SS / Faith Academy , AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior finds his name on the list for a second consecutive week as he had another impressive week with the bat. Robinson was 6-12 (.500 BA) with three doubles and two homeruns. He also drove in five runs. 

Gavin Prewitt C / Faith Academy, AL / 2024

Prewitt, an uncommitted junior. was 6-11 (.545 BA) with two doubles this week for the Rams. He also homered once and drove in three runs as well. 

Jackson Prickett SS / RHP / Priceville, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior produced on the mound for the 4A No. 5 Bulldogs as he made two appearances (one start and one in relief). Combined he threw seven innings, allowing seven hits and only one earned run. He went 2-0 for the week and struck out 12 hitters.  

Blake Moon 1B / LHP / Arab, AL / 2023

The uncommitted senior southpaw continues to give the Knights solid outings as he went 1-0 this week with a complete game shutout win over Athens. He threw seven innings and did not allow a run while scattering four hits and striking out four hitters. 

Cameron Norton C / LHP / Central , AL / 2026

The freshman left hander got the ball against a very good Saraland team and came up big for the 7A No. 1 Red Devils. He delivereed a complete game (5 IP) shutout as he scattered two hits and struck out five. 

Mason Busch RHP / OF / James Clemens, AL / 2024

Busch threw eight innings this week for the Jets, going 1-0. He allowed only one earned run and issued only one walk. He allowed only four hits and struck out five hitters. 

Landon Alton RHP / Thompson, AL / 2023

The Marion Military Institute signee was brilliant on the mound this week as he went 1-0 with seven innings pitched. He did not allow an earned run while allowing only three hits. He struck out ten opposing hitters. 

Zachary Wyatt RHP / SS / Thompson, AL / 2023

Wyatt was impressive this week for the Warriors as he turned in another quality outing. The Montevallo signee was 1-0 and did not allow an earned run. He tossed seven innings, only allowing four hits to go with 11 strikeouts. 

Luke Barron C / SS / Pike Liberal Arts, AL / 2025

The sophomore right hander went 1-0 this week for the Patriots. He tossed seven strong innings and did not allow an earned run. He scattered six hits and struck out six hitters as well.
